Sure. I'm a fucking idiot. No argument here. However, that doesn't change the fact that this is the guy you wanted. He is presumably making the decisions you'd want him to make. Those decisions have ramifications.
@8--you seem confused.
"However, that doesn't change the fact that this [McGinn} is the guy you wanted. He is presumably making the decisions you'd want him to make."
The person making the decision at issue is Satterberg, who does not report to McGinn.

The person making the decision at issue in this post is Satterberg, who doesn't work for McGinn.
@12 & 13 There is little doubt in my mind that there are probably a lot more relevent slog posts for my original comment. But my point is when the dust settles and the blame is being distributed for this tragedy, that there is plenty of blame to go around.
If Ms. Madrid's educated guess is correct, we're living in Shit City. I walk by the site of John T. Williams' murder several times a week, and the creepy feeling inspired by that stretch of sidewalk just won't go away.
I'll say it again: If Birk is not charged, our once-fair city's institutions will have confirmed that SPD has a license to kill anybody, anywhere, without fear of retribution. SPD will stand exposed as a gang of steroid-crazed thugs who think Seattle is Baghdad, every pedestrian is a terrorist, and they are the U.S. Army.
Seattle Times reporting that tomorrow the prosecutors will announce, indeed, that Birk won't face criminal charges.
And then, very quickly, as soon as possible after that announcement, so as to curtail any potential maird-storm, Diaz will make an announcement that the Firearms Review Board has deemed Birk's shooting UNjustified.
Mike McGinn = The Stranger's Mayor
How much fault for the killing of John T. Williams lies with The Stranger?
Libya, Tunisia, Egypt, Iran, Bahrain, Yemen ... and then Seattle.
I guess if they don't prosecute we can expect a lot of drunk, angry natives in the streets? Should be a normal day then......
