Okay, forget for a moment that Planned Parenthood doesn't actually spend federal dollars on providing abortions (it's illegal!) let alone grinding up babies in blenders. This is still a kinda brilliant ad. And it beautifully illustrates why progressives so often lose political battles, even when a majority of Americans agree with us on underlying issues.

The other side simply tells a better story.

And there's no better example of this than on abortion, where pro-choice advocates like to talk about some vague unwritten constitutional right to privacy, while self-proclaimed "pro-lifers" respond by waving a jar with a dead and mangled fetus (or in this case, a bunny/baby in a blender). The majority of Americans would like to be able to make this difficult choice for themselves, but when you balance a vague unwritten constitutional right on one side of the scale, and a dead and mangled fetus on the other, well, it's not surprising if the dead and mangled fetus wins.

If on the other hand, pro-choice advocates were to respond to the dead and mangled fetus with a young woman dying of sepsis from a back-alley abortion, well, that kinda even things out a bit. Especially when the men in the audience start imagining this dying woman to be their wife or their girlfriend or their daughter.

This is a truly awful image. But if truly awful images are what it takes to tell an equally compelling story on such an important issue as this, well then, that's what our side needs to do.
