Hey Anthony. Hey Paul. Hey Anthony again.
The thing is, you both missed the big news from today's iPad 2 announcement: Steves Jobs is not dead!
Yeah, he's looking as gaunt as ever, and perhaps he even has a couple of new organs in him (maybe even powered by a custom, dual-core A5!) but he was well enough to take the stage and personally introduce the most compelling tablet computer since the iPad 1. And that's good news for Apple, and bad news for its competitors.
Also bad news for Apple's competitors? Everything that Anthony said. Sorry Paul, you're just a geek trying to justify your impulsive decision to buy a refurbished iPad 1 five minutes after they dropped the price to $350, which I agree, is a helluva deal, but then I'm a geek too. The new iPad may not warrant a $150 price premium over what you just bought, but it's not competing against its predecessor, it's competing against the hoards of me-toos that'll flood the market this year. And in that contest, thinner-lighter-faster-plus-camera is more than enough of an upgrade to keep it ahead of the pack... especially considering the other guys' apparent inability to substantially undercut iPad on price.
Plus, the software announcements kick ass.
So no, based on today's announcement, I'm not selling the handful of Apple shares I've been holding onto since 2001. (And no, I'm not bragging; I'm disclaiming.)
