An odd amendment has been slipped into Sen. Jeanne Kohl-Welles' bill to clarify state laws surrounding the use of medical marijuana—and it has little to do with the actual use of medical cannabis.
The amendment, sponsored by Kohl-Welles herself and adopted yesterday, seems to target the growing business of advertising medical pot.
EFFECT: Advertising of cannabis for sale to the general public is prohibited. Newspapers and magazines are not subject to penalties for disseminating advertising in good faith without knowledge that the advertising promotes or tends to promote the use or abuse of cannabis.
I've asked Kohl-Welles about the reasons for this amendment and will post again when I know more.
