After weeks of insisting that proposed legislation to strip public employees of their collective bargaining rights was a fiscal issue, absolutely critical to balancing the Wisconsin state budget, Senate Republicans moved today to split Gov. Scott Walker's "budget repair" bill in two, so that the anti-union measures could be passed as non-fiscal bill without the quorum that has been denied by the walkout of 14 Democratic state senators.

State Sen. Jon Erpenbach, who has been in exile in Chicago, expressed his outrage to the Wisconsin State Journal. "They have been saying all along that this is a fiscal item, we've been saying it is not," said Erpenbach. "They have been lying. Their goal is to bust up the unions."

Democrats nationwide should learn a very important lesson from Wisconsin: Republicans, given complete control of the legislative process, will take no prisoners. They will shoot you in the head, dump your body in a ditch by the side of the road, and then laugh about it over a steak dinner. You know, metaphorically.
