It's about bloody time that some...anyone questioned the truth of this story. Monson who would sell his soul, his wife's soul and his kids souls to be the play by play annoucer for the Seahawks--HAS NEVER BEEN A JOURNALIST--in fact he enjoys bragging about the fact that he isn't. I expect more of his producer..and more importantly--I EXPECT MORE OF KIRO RADIO than to put unverified information like this in the public airwaves. Dori doesn't know any better--he's long been a media ho more interested in ratings than the truth...but News Chick Linda Thomas and the rest of the "news" staff should know better...
People who "don't want to make their story public" are unlikely to call up radio stations and tell it to them. Smells like BS to me.
I gotta say, though, the School District's use of the anti-word "confirmational", apparently a noun, is every bit as offensive to me as calling an ovoid a "sphere".
Stephanie Klein said the same thing to me when I emailed her about it. I still think they got April Fooled and will never admit it because the attention is just too good. I believe KIRO will stupe to most lows for ratings. I would love to hear Dave Ross and Luke Burbank go after it because they are the only two people over there that make any sense sometimes.
I remember about 10 years ago I used to listen to Dori during my lunch breaks. I found him reasonable, even if I didn't agree with him.
Fast forward to about a year ago, I caught a show of his.. . I couldn't believe it was the same guy. The "moderate" guy had disappeared and instead there was another cookie-cutter right wing talk show host. Like we don't have enough of those. . .
I was going to call bullshit on it, but I didn't have time to read quickly and then I thought I saw that the linked article cited an actual source. But yeah, make them prove it.
@10, oh my god, it's even worse than I thought -- I assumed she said "confirmational", which is an atrocity but at least makes a tiny bit of sense linguistically -- you could get what she was trying to say. But no, it's "conformational", which is beyond reason. Gah.
I believe the generally used terminology in the public sector in Seattle is "Spring Egg Hunt." While not sphere, neither is it Easter.
Schools should not promote Easter events. They should certainly be able to teach what Easter is, though. Just as schools should not enforce fasting during Ramadan, but should be able to teach what Ramadan is.
Why does this have to be so complicated? Would any of these right-wing nutcases want their public school teacher or football coach leading a Muslim prayer?
I don't want some 16 year old nitwit, the school district, or the teacher giving my kid candy. When I give my kid the money to buy candy or let him attend a party where it's served then that's my choice as a parent. I know what he's consumed that day & will be consuming over the next few days so I can make a rational choice regarding sugar intake. For a school rep to simply give him candy without ok'ing it with me is outrageous.
Sorry Xtians, Easter (search: "Ostara"), eggs, and celebrations of spring pre-date Christianity by a few millenia. The Romans trying to spread Christianity across northern Europe re-mapped Ostara onto a Christian rite so that the locals wouldn't be too pissed by being called "Christians", since they got to keep the majority of their holidays.
Many of our yearly holidays have roots in traditional celebrations:
Groundhog Day = Brigid
Easter = Ostara
May Day = Beltane
(Summer solstice = Litha)
(August 2nd = Lughnasad)
(Vernal Equinox = Mabon)
Halloween = Samhain
Christmas = Yule

This is my first time posting on slog, apologies for the redundancy, I would like the URL for the bug report to show up, in my comments above it's getting cut off so here's the full version
It is an insult to Islam.
Or Christianity.
Or ... um ... whatever religion we are this week.
And probably a terrorist.

Dori jumped the shark.
No wonder the Seattle School district is in the shape it's in.
Get the dunking egg basket and traditional dyes ready!

That was one of the only times we made it to the radio though! AM for the WIN!
