Ugh. Had this happen to a friend's car about a month ago. She left for 15 minutes to meet me and when we got back to the car, the back window was smashed and stuff was stolen.

Hate it, but I guess it's one of the trade offs of living in a city.

I walk from First Hill to downtown every morning and along Madison and Spring there are always one or two cars that have had their windows broken out over night. Its really a shame.

Never park on that part of Yesler. This has happened for years. Is it socio-economic? Geographic? Something else? Who cares: just don't park there if you value your car.

This has been happening for at least 10 years. The city doesn't do anything but sweep up the glass. Everyone in Seattle should know by now that you don't park on the Yesler bridge.

I guess you could see the risk of an occasional smashing as a reasonable price to pay for otherwise free parking within a short walk of downtown.

I'd imagine that's what all the folks that park there are thinking.

This happened to me twice five years ago when I lives in the I.D. - once I returned to my car in the morning to find the windows broken and the backseat soaked in piss!

When you go camping, you put your food in a lockbox or hang it up in a bear bag. Similarly, when you park in the city, you clean out your car and lock your valuables in the trunk. That way the bears don't break into your car and eat your grubs and berries.

Didn't you already post about this recently?

The main reason is because there are no eyes on the this block because it is an overpass. No one is walking by, no one is looking out. The cars parked in FRONT of Yesler Terrace do not have this problem.

We had parked here before without issues, well May7th overnight we were broken into. Wish we had known to look here before. They fought pretty hard to get in too. Oh well. File a report and wait for the police to do, well nothing.

I live nearby and my car is there frequently. I see other windows busted open but not mine. I don't leave anything in my car. One time my passenger window wasn't up all the way and someone came in and broke my locked glovebox though there was nothing in it. Just have to hope for the best really. Or just leave your car looking trashed and they'll think someone else already got to you.

It's also a bit of a trade off. It's the only free spot in the area to park.
