Only now do I realize that the dummy used to teach me CPR 25 or so years ago had white skin. I even recall the shape of its nose: European. Why does this even matter? Why is it worrying me at this moment? Because it means that I was taught how to save white lives.

Do instructors still use these white dummies? And, finally, what other memories in my mind are pretending to be innocent, to be as natural as air, water, and light, when they are in fact charged with codes that maintain our society's racial hierarchy?
