I make less than $1,000/month, and because of that I receive TakeCharge. All the same, I've just donated $5, and plan on facebooking the hell out of this. Thanks, Dan! <3
Thanks for not letting this very significant piece of legislation slip by unnoticed.
The week the bill sat on Daniels' desk while he considered signing it while folks speculated about whether he was serious about a social issues truce was just political theater; he had every intention of signing from the beginning. He just wanted to stall until Friday which is when politicians drop controversial stuff with the hope that it becomes old news over the weekend.
I was hoping somebody would sound the alarm and make it an issue the following Monday, but that was the weekend OBL was killed. Now's the time to make some noise and remind people that this is a big fucking deal: Indiana just defunded Planned Parenthood and set the precedent for other states to follow suit.
Fantastic!
We just donated $2,000.
We hate to think some Democrap might not be able to off her spawn just because her welfare check hasn't arrived yet...
I did this and gave in the name of Eric Turner, the woman-hating douchebag state rep who proposed this legislation in the first place, back when it was first proposed. I hope the card PP sent him specifically said "This $100 was donated to the Abortion Fund in your name. Eat it."
Clever idea and I <3 PP but...Isn't replacing government support with private donations the whole Republican goal in the first place? By quickly taking up the slack aren't you kind of proving them right?
I'm glad this came up today - if I hadn't terminated my pregnancy, I'd be entering my third trimester this week. I donated $20 (that to be honest, I don't have, though I am certain there are women who use PPIN's services that have much less) to the abortion fund in his name.
I gave $20 to the abortion fund in his name, and I hope next paycheck to give even more! Thanks for the great suggestion, JCY, and thanks for printing it, Dan!
Thanks for the suggestion. I set up a recurring donation of $10 a month. Part of me hopes they'll send the fucker a card every month, but the bigger part of me hopes they'll spend the money on health care instead.
@23 - I thought the same thing. But as much as I *hate* for them to even *think* they've been proven right, I hate the idea of women going without proper healthcare even more. So I donated.
@27, hahaha! No! I'm stoked actually, I didn't want to be pregnant! That's why I'm celebrating with a donation. I didn't read that letter, but I'm supposing that letter writer WANTED her baby, which is probably why she was sad when she couldn't have it. It doesn't seem that complicated to me? I didn't want the baby, so I didn't keep it, and now I'm happy. She wanted her baby, she couldn't keep it, and now she's unhappy. Make sense?
And @29, I actually didn't get healthcare from Planned Parenthood. I'm Canadian, so I marched up to my local women's hospital (well, actually I called in advance for an appointment) and got that fetus removed, in and out in less than two and a half hours, and all for free, thank you Canadian health care. I wish everyone on the planet had the same opportunity!
You're right, it doesn't seem complicated (it never is....)
You didn't want your baby.
You had an ethical Canuck physician sworn to 'do no harm' kill your baby. For Free!
And you are happy about it.
It is a bloody murderous cold blooded story repeated 900,000 times a year in North America.
What was it Abraham Lincoln said about the Wrath of God; that "until every drop of blood drawn with the abortionists cruel blade, shall be paid by another drawn with the sword, as was said three thousand years ago, so still it must be said "the judgments of the Lord, are true and righteous altogether"?....
Will someone keep track of Indiana media to see if this makes the news? Just sent $50--specifying "abortion fund"--to PPIN. Wonder if his office will even acknowledge the acknowledgments.
@29 I agree that continued health care for women should be the first priority.
I'm just not sure the "In your face!" notes to Daniels are conveying the message everyone here wants them to.
Also, unless everyone here has set up an automatic monthly payment in perpetuity, the donations are going to dry up before women in IN stop needing health care. Efforts should be focused on re-establishing consistent funding but I'll admit I don't have a clever idea for doing that.
Done! Only $20, but as a non-profit worker I put it toward the general operating fund because I know how much orgs need infrastructure dollars.
From the front page of www.ppin.org today:
"(Indianapolis) – Due to an ongoing and meaningful outpouring of financial support from women and men across the country, Planned Parenthood of Indiana (PPIN) is able to continue to cover the costs of care to its established Medicaid patients through at least Monday, May 30."
@23 You're right about donations to the general health fund, but since abortions weren't covered by federal money in the first place (due to the Hyde Amendment) donating to the abortion fund is not picking up the slack.

Done and done (I used @19's wording suggestion as well)
yes
you are all stooge puppets of the right.....
So help us out.
Slog was all weepy about the miscarried baby of the bi letter writer.
Are we supposed to feel bad about YOUR dead baby, too?
ditto.
It was very important for KayElle's daughter to get healthcare from PP.

I wrote "From your neighboring state of Illinois. Enjoy!"
