Better yet-send an e-mail direct to management of the Space Needle at president@spaceneedle.com . Just as seeing the pride fly last year was a significant event-- if it were not to fly this year it would also be really significant. Let us not lose ground.
2
they got a lot of free worldwide publicity by doing so ...
3
Just signed it!

I'm all for driving republicans "absolutely bananas."

Go Gay Pride!!!
4
If it's a typical flag-raising, it's up to a group to sponsor it, etc.
5
I was part of several lgbt groups and nonprofits in Tacoma who petitioned the mayor to also fly the pride flag on top of the Tacoma dome this year for pride month but the initiative was shot down. We were told it is too dangerous for them to put people up there to change the flag. I distinctly remember a 12th man flag flying there last year. We even pledged to buy the flag for it. Funny how a football team is more important that lgbt people in Tacoma.

Can the our south sound Lgbt brethren get some recognition for our efforts too? The most the city would do is fly it at city hall.
6
Motherfucking signed.
7
Seattle Center has no authority over the Space Needle. The Needle is privately owned. Or so I've read in The Stranger.
8
What a shame. Seeing the flag up there was really the highlight of my summer. I hope the Space Needle comes through for us. Pleaaaaaaaaaaaaaaase Space Needle. Pretty please raise the Pride flag.
9
Space Needle, RAISE THAT FLAG!
10
I've always wondered if they have a big flag cabinet. I worked there for a year, never saw it.
11
From what I've heard from LGBT activists close to the situation, the Space Needle Corporation (yes, it is owned and operated by a private corporation) does not want the needle to become a "community flag pole" and therefore generally displays flags as a one-time thing (so they say; what about the 12th Man flag?).

There are apparently plans to use the flag that flew last year in the pride parade this year, which is kind of awesome.
12
Signed!!!
13
Signed!
14
If it can drive just one Republican douchenozzle bananas, then it's all worth it.
15
Signed because I like watching Repubs squirm like little kids.
16
Umm, FYI: the Space Needle Corp is own by a bunch of Repubs.
17
@11 - I'm with you. I think the Space Needle Corp. lost that argument when they painted the top to look like the "Wheel of Fortune" wheel that one time to promote the show being taped in Seattle.

If they can raise the Stars & Stripes on every national holiday, and the 12th man flag for every Seahawk playoff appearance, I don't see why they can't fly the pride flag for one weekend every June.
18
Well if they don't... boycott the space needle pride weekend. That would hurt them considering Seattle Center is where the pride festival is. If they are not for the LGBT community they don't deserve the money.

The Needle is a member of the GSBA and it is through that association that the flag went up there last year. Members of the GSBA board were in attendance for the raising. Perhaps a call to them might be in order?

Well seems no good deed goes unpunished. So they put it up last year are they required to put it up this year? Is there some big Space Needle/Homo connection that I don't know about. Of course we gays have always had interesting icons, why I remember the day Leona "Queen of Mean" Helmsley went to jail her husband Harry darked the entire Empire State Building. It was quite touching.
23
@22
yes.. they're being so severely punished for flying a silly flag for a day. Or they're just wanting to avoid all the hate mail from the rabid mouth-breathers that they got after flying it last year -- especially in the wonderful political climate we have ourselves nowadays.

It's a logical decision. Transparent, sure... but logical.
24
i've thought about this for a good bit. been difficult finding actual documented quotes from their spokesperson... but if what i've heard is right, then it's sort of silly to say that they won't do it again, and i am kind of holding out hope that they will still raise one this year. sure. let the one from last year lead the parade. but raise one too. we want to SEE that. but if not, i sort of understand why. and i don't think its all to do with politics or background corporate favoritism kind of decisions either... i do think they are just a little nervous about being turned into a gay symbol rather than a seattle symbol. think about it... it's great to stand up and show support for the native and international lgbt community, but not so great to lose their history behind radical anti-gay protests. i don't really want that either.

And now that they've announced their "exciting fundraiser opportunity" Here's an analysis of it:

It's BS... donate, essentially to the Space Needle, so that they can do "the right thing" and in return, they get the payment of the PR move for giving $50,000 total to 4 LGBT-related charities. In other words "Help us improve our PR from pissing all you guys off in the first place, and if we can look good by donating this stuff then we'll put up the flag for A MATTER OF HOURS between when the Pride parade is over and until we take the flag down later in the evening." And is the Space Needle donating anything? Nope. Just reaping the rewards of our "buy off." Now I don't give a crap if it flies or not because it will now be for all the wrong reasons
