And they all attended college on the GI Bill, no less.
2
I bet every one of those average brave Americans who stormed the beaches of Normandy lost thier freedom to choose their medical programs years ago...as they all by now are on Medicare, or most likely covered by the VA...
3
"...the very Americans that our government now and this President does [sic] not trust to make a decision on your health care plan..."

Didn't Single Payer poll really well?
4
Because there are so many affordable options of medical coverage out there to choose from.
5
"Those average Americans" didn't make the decision to storm the beaches; they did what they were told by those wise folks in the government.

If Santorum—and those "rugged individualists" he claims to represent—are to be believed, America wouldn't have been able to fight the war, because any decision towards a goal beyond his own personal bank account would be treated as Big Government Socialist treason.

Luckily, he and his ilk would have been heavily invested in arms contracts, so he'd have voted for it anyway.
6
Which was the prouder moment, Danny;
licking doorknobs and toilet seats at Bauer HQ
or
lying to the poor intern?
7
Also, and I may be wrong about this, my understanding was that we were fighting the Nazis to prevent both genocide and a European empire, not to protect insurance companies, er, I mean deregulation of the insurance industry or completely privatized health insurance. But, whatever, it was so long ago, and Google is so hard to use.
8
Duck and cover...it's a santorum launch (maybe have some wipes handy).
9
He and his ilk aren't even attempting to make sense these days. Their belivers don't want to hear sense anyway, so it all works out.
10
Perfect. More coverage of coverage of distracting pointless political theater. MeTA punditry! It sounds more intelligent than it is. Obama and Paul revere coming from our british people! Get your guns and shoot at stuff because this is merka...and protect your right to be obese and stupid. No representation without animation! I can't wait for ezra klein to inform me what he thinks I should think about what rick thinks about what those who he thinks support him think he should say.
11
More than half of the troops that landed on Normandy beach on June 6th were British and Canadian. What kind of medical care do they have in Britain and Canada?
12
Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, the Space Program, the Federal Highway Program...Indeed "those Americans" were some of the biggest proponents of socialism in our nation's history.
13
Why does he think that our fighting men in World War II were only "average Americans"? They and our allies trained for grueling months to beat back Jerry, stormed the beaches, and held them against German counterattack. Then they pushed Germany, a huge military power, into the corner and made it say "Uncle". That's FAR above average if you ask me! And you better believe that anyone who was only an "average American" didn't make it through training. Is Santorum trying to minimize the valor of men without whom he'd be speaking Kraut? What's with this asshole?
15
I can only surmise that Santorum and his ilk are simply counting on most of those "average Americans", who would all be well into their 90's by now, being so beset with late-onset Alzheimer's or whatever that they don't recall anymore exactly what it was they were fighting for back in '44.

Seriously, it's the only thing that makes sense. Otherwise, it's all just craven Right-Wing drivel leaking out of their, um, mouths, yeah, that's the ticket.
16
Eh. Obamacare's going to be ruled unconstitutional anyway (which it is), so what's the point in even talking about it?
17
Shorter:

Santorum (points to self): "PATRIOTISM!"
conservatives cheer loudly

Santorum (points to picture of Obama with Hitler moustache): "SOCIALISM!"
conservatives boo and hiss

Santorum proceeds to strut about the stage as huge American flag unrolls behind him while video of GI's storming beach and heavenly image of Reagan plays on a Jumbotron. Crowd salutes and cheers
18
@16 The Roberts Court if anything is a pro-business court, and the inclusion of the personal mandate is the only reason the insurance companies let it pass. The insurance companies love the personal mandate, it means millions of new customers. Therefore, it's constitutional.
19
Let's clarify-

Soldiers serving their country who receive the thanks of their nation on one hand. Parents who have kids they can't afford since they expect others to care for them on the other.

Intelligent people can distinguish between the thanks of a grateful nation (VA, GI bill etc) and social engineering for a wastrel society (welfare, socialized medicine etc.)

Dan "Lied to Seattle Times Intern (Twice!)" Savage

Please share details!
21
@20: Oops, never mind. Serves them right - you never ask a lady her age.
22
@19 you mean like corporate welfare that keeps obesity up like the cane sugar embargo and corn ethanol subsidies?

Like that, socialist?

The free market cares nothing for your excuses, Socialist GOP.

SeattleBlues has made his comment. Now like always he's going to run away because he's too much of a coward to actually engage in debate.

He's admitted that the only reason he's here is because he finds "liberal baiting" entertaining. Apparently, though, it's not so entertaining when people who are more informed than he is fight back, so he has to run to his Italian house, or his boats, or something else and hope that people will forget his earlier comments when he makes the same inane arguments in future threads.

This is what @23 said to those who have unregistered comments turned off:

I was about to say the same thing as well. It really isn't so much that he is incapable of debate though, his presence here continues because he was victimized and uses this place to make himself feel better about whatever has happened to him (only responds to personal attacks, never engages in any real debate, constantly brings up his wife even when unnecessary etc etc etc.).

The cracks in his mask are showing but it doesn't matter so long as that mask keeps him unidentified. =)

@23

It's called having a life. Entertainment is one thing but I have a family to support, and other sources of entertainment, come to that. Sometimes I'm at my desk, and I can engage refute the patently silly notions progressives hold. Sometimes I'm earning my living, or using the boat or hiking or walking my dogs. I see no reason to apologize for that, or any reason it shows cowardice.

@22

So agitate for reforms of tax policy. I'd agree with you. Corporate entities that hide their assets overseas should be taxed, or told to move where their assets are.

Don't blame corn ethanol on conservatives. That's a myth of global warming/Al Gore mess.

You assume that conservatives hold the lock-step view of politics liberals often do. We, or at least I, don't.
26
@24

Aww, poor mudkips, whatever that means.

You really should leave psychiatry to the professionals. You're not all that good at it.
27
@26 As long as you keep responding, I'll assume I'm doing it right. Thanks for the speedy reply =)
28
"Sometimes I'm at my desk, and I can engage refute the patently silly notions progressives hold."

But you never do that. You say things, you make remarks indicating that all liberals are stupid or that Dan Savage, in your opinion, isn't even human, and then when the feedback gets too tough you announce that you've got better things to do and run away.

Don't use big words like "refute" unless you know what they mean.
29
One other thing: you claim that you have a life and that "I see no reason to apologize for that".

I never asked for an apology. Don't make yourself out to be a victim when you really aren't one. Your time would be better spent brushing up on reading comprehension.
30
@29 "Don't make yourself out to be a victim when you really aren't one."

Survey says it is likely that he IS a victim, just not that kind of victim.
31
I can't even think of
Santorum
as amusing any more. What a hateful douchebag. Man do his statements here piss me off.
32
Did Google remove spreadsantorum.com from its search results? It's no longer turning up for me.

(Thankfully there's still a link titled "Rick Santorum's Anal Sex Problem" popping up as the second result after Santorum's wikipedia page.)
33
Santorum is despicable here. He trivializes the thousands of lives lost and the sacrifices made on June 6, 1944.

If the GOP had any real patriots in their party, they would be outraged, but for them the sacrifice of lives is just a tool to lower their tax rate and help the top 1%. Bastards.

Veterans groups should be outraged by this.

Santorum is really running at the mouth here...
34
Impressive! Denigrating the British contribution to WW2 and insulting the NHS (which for all its problems is still a better system than the one in the US) at the same time. Who said men can't multitask?
35
@25: What about the subsidies for oil companies then?
@26:
>implying you are a professional psychiatrist, psychologist, analyst, therapist, or analrapist
36
i am going to download firefox and a user script so i longer have to read seattleblues, Will in Seattle and 5280's posts. hooray.
37
Hey Dan,

You spelled "lesson" wrong. Retard.

Love,
Me
38
Did Santorum and Palin take the same history course?
39
@36: You can use firefox, chrome or safari to download the script that hides the trolls/idiots.

Please wait...
