Wm,
Remember those "lap dolls"? As I recall, they were pillow "models" where one could "lie" one's head in the "lap" of a female model. Made in Japan. Weird.
'Xenophobia,' also known as a fear of foreigners and their culture, died Aug. 5th, in an article written by Kelly O.
"This product would be weird even if it came from America," commented Kelly O, "but it's fun to laugh at because it's from Japan."
'Xenophobia,' had been championed recently by both the Tea and Republican Parties. This swift assasination by a left-wing writer came as a bit of a surpries.
The other night I went to IKEA, right near me in Kent (well Renton technically since its on the other side of 180th) to get dinner and buy some chef's knives.
I usually bring home some food like herring, lingonberry jam and that great Swedish dry bread and couldn't not buy a dessert product called Cocosball. It's a kind of miniature Hostess Sno-Ball -- marshmallow in chocolate cake with coconut.
But the reason I bought it is because of SLOG. I just imagined someone from SLOG seeing this product and saying "Cocosball...Heh....heh, heh, heh".
@11 - It's not that this is funny because it's Japanese. It's more that Japan is funny because they make things like this. Americans make truck nuts, the State of Texas, and electronic singing fish plaques; we are funny for making those things.
Care to write yourself an obituary for "relevant, interesting comments"?
Not only can you download vibrator apps (some sold honestly, some sold as "massagers"), but if you have the Savage Love app on your iphone, it is already a vibrator.
@ 11 - Calm down. Xenophobia may be alive and well, but it is NOT when you look a something from a culture very different from our own and go, "Oooookaaaay" That's just puzzlement.
I bet there was a televised contest in Japan to choose who would win the prestige of having her hand used as the model for this... this... iPhone hand and lipstick and keychain holder thing.
Wins Teh Internets for the week.
I highly recommend "Face vs Beetles" about halfway down the page. It's pretty much exactly what it sounds like.

"No, it's a sex toy!"
"No, it's a smart phone!"
"IT'S A SEX TOY, YOU COW!!"

'Xenophobia,' will not be missed.

(Cue the Addams Family TV series opening credits music...)
BTW, I'm married to a Japanese citizen, so it's not like I'm unaccustomed to weirdness. This really takes the danish.

You'll sever your fiancee's hand and glue it to your phone? This isn't a sex toy, it's like something out of Psycho.
