My Republican friend once tried to convince me that the Tea Party wasn't racist; it was just a few LaRouchies hanging out with them who were giving them bad press.
Satire aside, Paul has at least managed to win national elected office and has many more supporters who have the added benefit of not all living together.
I kind of like Ron Paul. He's a nutty old grandpa, but at least he shows that you can be a fiscal conservative and somewhat socially liberal. It would nice if he could do so without the fast talking crazy, but for whatever reason people who have those views tend to be nutso like Paul or Perot.
Evey time I see one of those LaRouch Obama signs I get pissed off. To say that Obama's policies are anything close to Hitler's is to diminish the six millions jews who were slaughtered, not to mention the tens of millions of soldiers and civilians who died in WWII.
@9, erm, Ron Paul is a congressman, and is elected by a hundred thousand people in Texas. That's not elected nationally. Though it is miles ahead of anything Lyndon "The Beatles were created by military intelligence" LaRouche ever did.
Another fun fact about LaRouche: he thinks that all proofs of the Fundamental Theorem of Algebra except Gauss' famous one are fraudulent, and he encourages his cult members to get in a room and study it until they can replicate it. He's convinced that there's a conspiracy to spread Newtonian lies about mathematics, and that the Cauchy-Argand proof is the root of this evil.
Well, that's a fun fact if you're interested in mathematics, I suppose.
Satire, yes. As I understand it, Kelly O is suggesting that calling Paul a genius and LaRouche a crackpot is just as absurd as the other way around. Fair enough.
I think she is also suggesting that the argument she makes about LaRouche is really true of Paul: that journalists avoid covering him because they are concerned that readers would misunderstand his positions on sophisticated issues, and accidentally elect a demagogue. I think she gives most reporters too much credit. They gloss over and misrepresent important, confusing issues all the time. Witness, for instance, all the misleading reporting about the federal budget. Her hypothesis contradicts far more data than it explains.
I'm no fan of Ron Paul's. I think he's awful, for the reasons Kelly O listed. But I think the reason the press ignores him is that he's outspoken against the wars.
Thank you #4. A voice of sanity after only 23 minutes.
I can only assume that those who thought the original posting was a serious screed have not been following the national presidential race seriously and have missed at least one episode each of The Daily Show and the Colbert Report.
@25 as a matter of fact, every time I bump into Fnarf at Sounders games, he's standing around railing that Obama is the biological spawn of John Lennon and unnamed CIA operatives who inseminated Lennon with Hitler's DNA, while he yells at people to not take photos of him.
I never knew LaRouche was an actual person (I still have my doubts). I thought it was just a random name that the political trolls that constitute the fanbase made up.
Ron Paul has a lot of stupid ideas, like returning to the gold standard. But I wouldn't call him a crackpot. LaRouche is a crackpot who's one step away from David Ickes.
Neither one of them will ever be president, but if I had to choose between the two, I'd pick Ron Paul hands down.
Satire or not, equating Ron Paul with Lyndon LaRouche is just ignorant.
Was waiting to meet my family a few years ago at a prearranged location where it turned out, joy of joys, young LaRouchites were handing out literature. A young man with them approached every passerby with the charming question "May I put my penis in your anus?" This lasted for at least the 15 minutes I was waiting there. The rest of the group howled with laughter each time the question was asked.
I thought Larouche was intending to awaken the people of the world that the British Empire is ruling the U.S.of A. by Banking Powers manipulating our Legislature, Supreme Court and Executive branch of government before the masses of useless eaters are herded into the poison gas showers. I know I did not vote to give Obama the power to detain indefinitely without trial.
What could be more bizarre in a 'FREE' country?

His CV is a little fucked if you ask me.

Hey Fnarf, isn't your birthday in September too? COINCIDENCE??????
Yes, the ideologues do not make good Presidents, any more than the analysts.

It was awesome.
Are there really other candidates like this?
