I haven't seen that much bullshit and shameless pandering from a Slog post in a long time. "play well with voter hungry for a candidate they can trust.." Can you SAY cliche'?
A lot of Dems are going to start adopting the language of the Occupy movement in the way that Republicans adopted the language of the Tea Party, and while I don't doubt that their words will somewhat jibe with their values, they won't reflect their passions. But Darcy... she's been talking economic injustice since I first met her at Camp Wellstone in 2005.
Goldy @ 4: Yes, but will she clue into that properly this time around? In 2008, it was all about Iraq for her when the electorate was all about the tanking economy.
@6: She was not all about Iraq. Watch the video from the 2008 house party. There she is talking about the economy.
In August of 2007, before the economy really hit the skids, Darcy set out to work with ex-generals and security experts to craft her "Responsible Plan" to end the war. Understandably, that was a huge focus during her campaign, because she invested so much in it. But that's not all she talked about.
Can't wait to see Darcy joining the murdering (Oakland), OD'ing (Portland), raping (NYC) and bottle slashing (Seattle) that goes on at that little experiment called "Occupy Lord of the Flies".
Goldy: Admittedly, I was being overly simplistic in my argument, however, you proved my point. By summer/fall 2008, the voters had moved on, but she was still pushing the "Responsible Plan" as the centerpiece of the campaign, because, as you said, the time invested. A better candidate, however, would have seen where the voters were and changed focus accordingly and in time.
@10: Yes, you are the expert on the 2008 WA-08 race because you saw some ads and read a few articles from cynical reporters, where as I was only intimately involved with the campaign on the ground, saw Darcy speak to numerous local groups, and spent many long hours discussing policy with her. So forgive me for interjecting.
Goldy - and I am sorry to say - but since her first campaign she has come across as less and less sincere. There is no gut sensiblility there, no deep feeling that she really gives a shit. And that is deadly in a 99% movement environment.
@ 11, way to shut him down! You just keep your tunnel vision and disregarding all contrary opinions. If it made all the boogies go away when you were a boy, it will surely keep working now.
@18: No. As the video shows, she was saying these things to voters too.
Like I said, most people's perception of Darcy comes from TV ads and news coverage (much of which was downright hostile). I know the real Darcy, and while it's fair to suggest that you feel she comes off as insincere or inauthentic, I can tell you from first hand experience that she is not insincere or inauthentic when it comes to issues of economic justice.
"I can tell you from first hand experience that she is not insincere or inauthentic when it comes to issues of economic justice."
Eynman has a brand. What's the Burner brand? What's she done in the name of economic justice? Why didn't she go after the Times when they smeared her? Mel and Charlie at SaveSeattleSchools have taken plenty of scalps from the Times ed board, and they don't have fundraising prowess. They also don't have Goldy trying to loan them a dick.
When I worked for KC Elections, people called the Voter Hotline to ensure they were registered, just so they could vote for hero who "single-handedly caught Gary Ridgway." They didn't care about getting it wrong.
Ridiculous. What experience? What prowess? Blogging prowess?
Ability to fundraise does not make a candidate. She has zero experience creating policy and zero business experience. Money, a pulpit she doesn't deserve and people like you to buy into her layered BS are the only reason she gets any play - and are why she hasn't been elected to ANY office before.
So the party hack will tailor a speech to appeal to an audience and then turn around in a ludicrous about face and do what the leadership requires of her. I wonder how people like this continue to get elected and then i read the supposed progressive musings of the slog masquerading as savvy realpolitik.
Jesus, change the tune already and stop imagining yourselves a virtuoso genius of the system. You cannot win with shills like this.

Again, Burner may be a great person, but great people don't automatically make great politicians.
Not with my vote.
He lack of authenticity with the 1st CD will be her undoing.
Her peated running and losing limits the coverage lesser known candidates.
So basically you heard what she wasn't telling actual voters in the 8th District. Marvelous.
