You realize you've had a streak of twelve uninterrupted posts in the last three and a half hours, and that they were all pretty good? What are you on, sir?
2
sNoot's pro-child slavery stance locked up the Confederate vote, no question.

This repulsive asshole's got more back issues than National Geographic, and yet here we are.

It's worth it to see Rumneebot 3000 humiliated again, tho. BWAHAHAHAHAHA!

Every Newt Gingrich Victory Speech for each primary he win, is just a GOP suicide note for Nov. 2012. The GOP has to be absolutely bat shit crazy to think he can win the general election. Porky Pig versus Tyson Beckford.
4
It's not really your fault, but every time you say "momentum" I want to punch you in the neck.
5
Winner: Obama, Democratic congressional candidates.

Loser: Gingrich. Not tonight, per se. Just for spending a lifetime as a turd.

Do you guys have the watsup on Candice Gingrinch?

I say it's a winner for Obama also. The longer the Republican field remains one big churning shitstorm, the greater his advantage will be.
8
Paul, I like your analysis in general (thanks!!), but I'm gonna have to disagree with you about the coastal counties / old people / Florida idea.

The big difference, as I see it, between the three counties Romney won and the rest isn't old folks, but educated folks. There are almost 30,000 students at the University of South Carolina in Columbia, along with all of the alums, professors, hangers-on, etc., a good solid chunk of the 384K in the county. I'm guessing that Charleston and the coast are more educated than the rest of the state too. Given the exit polls that showed Mitt with a big edge amongst those with a college education, that was probably what did it, not the age tilt.

Seriously. Being old doesn't make you stupid enough to vote for Newt, and being un-educated doesn't either, but it sure helps. Are there as many stupid people in Florida? I'm guessing no, but we'll see.
9
You guys are crazy or naive or both. This is not 2008. People are 4 years' stupider now. Either Romney/Santorum or Gingrich/Santorum can beat Obama.
10
Wonderful entertainment, but for better or worse, Florida will almost certainly lock it up for Romney. Amusing how difficult it is for Seattleites in general and Sloggies in particular to grasp the conservative politics of places like South Carolina. Perhaps one could think of it as an entire state like eastern Washington, but secretly wishing that slavery would come back.
11
#9 huh?
12
I like what you've done with this post. it's been hard to really grasp the race for the Republican nomination with any kind of perspective seeing how it feels like it started the day Obama took office. reading over what you've said here, I think I've arrived at a point of clarity outside of this forest of nonsense; we've been watching a handful of reprehensible characters compete for a chance to become the president America deserves. ouch.
13
This dragging on for even a couple more weeks helps Obama. Had this all ended with Willard winning his 3rd, rather than 1 for 3, we would have a couple months of Willard pounding Obama while Obama is trying to lump the bumbling House in with whoever is the nominee.
Instead we have Willard having to this money and attention at Newt past Obama's State of the Union, and maybe further. Just because Willard could win Florida that doesn't mean the a petty and vindictive Newt would give up after 12 days of Willard's Super PAC attacks.

This will drag on, it will get even more personal and negative. The Republicans can say they are going to take this country in a positive direction while the drag each other through Hell.

Meanwhile Obana is singing Al Green. 55 seconds and Obama has half of the newscasters doe eyed. He can do that for a month while the Republicans rip at each other's flesh, driving up their negatives.
He will show up and be President on Tuesday, present a plan, and the Republican blur of negative talk will be unfocused because they do not have the 1 Willard to parrot.

Faux News exit poll says 98% of the South Carolina voters were white. http://www.foxnews.com/politics/election…
15
Earlier, Gingrich basically called Juan Williams a lazy n-word.

16
@11, I would give anything for that not to be so. I don't want them to beat Obama. This country will be completely down the tubes if that happens. But it's entirely possible, and even probable.
17
...and then this happened: http://producermatthew.com/post/16276384…
18
@10:

No GOP candidate has won the nomination without SC since pre-Reagan times. Tell us again - who doesn't understand conservative politics?
19
the longer it takes for romney to lock it up the better.
20
@1: a roll.
21
Seriously, Newt is the candidate backed by the big guns. Have you seen the foreign policy advisors he has on board? He has the classic republican, cold war leaders on his team (pre-Reagan guys in some cases) who've been a part of the Republican machine for decades. If anything, Mitt is a distraction to keep the DNC focused on the wrong target...and it's working. Seems silly to think Newt could compete against Obama, but after Geedub, I think I've seen sillier things.
22
Two of the counties Romney won were coastal, and the South Carolina coast is popular among older retirees. This could actually bode very well for Romney in Florida.

Errr.... NO.

You really should've paid closer attention to the exit polling here, Paul. Newt did his best among voters 65 or older -- dominating with a whopping 47% of that vote!

(Romney didn't get anywhere near that good a showing with any demographic group on the list, save one: those with a household income of $200,000 a year or more!)
23
Romney only has one gear, but he's mastered it.

So Romney is a hipster on a fixie?
24
Which of these pathetic excuses for humanity will receive the coveted KKK endorsement?
25
Surely Savage can deliver the succinct attack on Newt that we'll need. They can deny it all they want, but his Santorum campaign successfully, um, penetrated the Republican, um, bubble. IMO Savage already owns Newt.
26
(But Dan, save it for the generals.)
27
This race just keeps getting curiouser and curiouser.
28
if Paul takes FL i'll start to enjoy this. fuck them.
29
One needs an iron stomach for this GOP rollercoaster. What a circus of maniacs they are!
30
And in funnier news:

https://www.ricksantorum.com/unite/

C.U.M., Mr Santorum? Really? REALLY REALLY?!?!?!

And some people actually want someone this stupid to be president?
31
Would not vote for Newt even if water-boarded. Are the Repubs on a suicide mission? I agree that he's amusing, a la PT Barnum. but as a serious predidential candidate? I did not vote for obama, did not plan to vote for obama, do not like obama, but against Newt, I would vote for obama.
And I believe Marianne, and those women associated with Herman Caine, too. Doesn't disqualify Newt, but is further evidence that he is a bombastic slob.

Please wait...
