He's an idiot and he is wrong, and I wish I were there when Jesus meets him and tells him to his face. Alas, Jesus, being the cool guy that he is, will probably forgive him after he kicks his ignorant ass.
If "Kathryn" thinks even attending her gay sister's wedding is wrong, how on earth did the bride think they were close enough to ask her to be a bridesmaid?
Perhaps the bride is sick of getting prostletyzed to and figured this would be the one thing that would get her fundy sis off her back for good...
To be consistent, he'd have say the same thing to the bride's parents and grandparents, to her other siblings, and to her children from a prior marriage (husband now deceased), not to mention all of her friends. Charming. Shun her!
In so far a premarital sex is a sin, it would seem that anyone denying marriage to gay people, at least those who have sex with each other, is intensifying and therefore participating in the sinfulness of each of those gay sex acts.
Whomever wrote that question had a pretty good idea what he'd say. If they wanted to hear something about supporting her sister and stop being a jerk then they would have written Dan Savage. If they wanted a religious out for being a jerk: this was your guy.
Or it's possible someone just decided it was time for another question and answer like this and wrote it.
Unless ol' Pat has a different holy book, the Christly thing to do would be to wash the brides feet and turn some water into wine at the reception. Pat's a mean spirited and judgmental individual. Sad.
My sister-in-law said practically word for word the same thing Pat recommends regarding attending our wedding. "Thank the non-existant god" is what my wife said at the time.
Of course, I was pissed, what with me being her out lesbian sisterinlaw bridesmaid at THEIR wedding. My GF at the time was a welcome guest. But I suppose her supporting me having legal relationship rights is just a step too far?
Some of these xtians are really nutjobs or at least more inconsistant than seems normal. but not having them at your wedding, while very angrifying at the time, ends up being a good thing. God works in mysterious ways, after all.
Pat Robertson is an accessory to mass murder and a war criminal. Never forget. Why would you want someone who listens to him at your wedding? The gay sister should tell her sibling to fuck off.
I don't get the part where he says "Tell your sister you love her; you LOVE HER. But that you just can't bless this union."
What is the thinking here? It isn't the wedding that is causing you grief.Hes saying "You're and abomination and you wan't to get married. I love you but it is the wedding I cannot abide."
Pat Robertson is just interpreting the bible in its traditional manner. He's recommending that the sister avoid the wedding out of love, much as she might avoid the kegger of an alcoholic sibling.
It's offensive in our modern culture, but that's the bible when read with any sense of literalness.
Jesus playing humbler-than-thou by washing the feet of a sinner does not equal participating in or supporting sinful activities.
Anyone who writes to Pat Robertson for advice, especially if they say "I don't know if I should even go, much less be a part of it," has already drunk the Kool-Aid and can be written off. I hope "Kathryn" follows his advice, so that her sister can reevaluate their relationship based on the new level of mutual honesty and openness that will be established by that conversation.
Wait, when I attend someone's wedding that means I agree with it? Um....I think I need a do-over on a few disasters that I sat quietly through waiting for the champagne and cake.
@ @17 what blasphemous foolishness are you yapping about ? . where in the holy bible does it recommend that anyone avoid anyone else out of love for them ? that's the most twisted interpretation of any scripture i've ever heard..oh wait that must come from some old timey tradition where they dunk witches to death and burn pagan babies.. jesus loved people who betrayed him, who were complicit in his death and forgave them.. when his own disciples tried to admonish him for getting his feet washed by a whore he rebuked them . when they tried to stone a whore to death , he stopped it and saved her.
if you don't want to go to your gay sister's wedding , don't go. but don't bring jesus into it..
... assholes..
Pat Robertson: 'Treat Marijuana The Way …
Oh wait, that was Robertson yesterday. While a broken clock is right occasionally, the problem is time moves on the next day.
Perhaps the bride is sick of getting prostletyzed to and figured this would be the one thing that would get her fundy sis off her back for good...
And you're asking if you should go to your sister's wedding?
How about some perspective here?
