Your public 'service' unions are going down.

you've been warned......
2
Oh dear.... The troll has told us anonymously that we must be afraid. How could anyone doubt that sort of steady leadership and firm grasp of the situation?
3
Well, at the minimum it says something about Wisconsin and what it means to be outspent 8:1
4
How do my balls taste Slog?
5
On to Washington State and freedom from SEIU thugs.

Sloggers: start your excuses!
6
how indeed?
7
Yer wrong - sorry to say - this means that Amerika is chock fucking full of Republicans who would think nothing of stringing fellow countrymen up by balls and countrywomen up by vaginas ... Okay over the top, but recognize the next time you think o your sighing disappointment in Obama just how fucking nuts your friends and neighbors are - they love death and desire self-deification by any means necessary.
8
wow

the losers in wisconsion are sure buttsore...
9
It looks like Walker won by a landslide, while at the same time Obama is up in the polls in Wisconsin.

The only indication this has for the presidential election is that Wisconsinites like the status quo.
10
Okay, let's cut the crap and get down to brass tacks here....how awesome was Prometheus?
11
There's a reason why Obama distanced himself from this election early on. He knew it was a loser. If he had gotten personally involved and lost, it would have been a different story. As it is, no praise, no blame.
12
The tea leaves tell me most of the people in Wisconsin are fucking idiots. I'm glad I don't live there. But where I do live is Washington and this should scare the hell out of my fellow Washingtonians because we've got our own asshole in the lead for governor right now.
13
"It looks like Walker won by a landslide, while at the same time Obama is up in the polls in Wisconsin."

Which means even moderate Dems are sick and tired of state worker unions. Change is coming my friends, just watch Obama toss even more of the loony left overboard to win the sensible, centrist vote in America.

Time to 'occupy' a fucking job, not an entitlement.
14
This is interesting information considering that people are still in line to vote.
15
@12

Can I suggest you keep calling the majority of voters 'idiots'? It's such a winning strategy for college educated, identity politics morons who run the left now.
16
@14 No amount of voter fraud will close a nearly 20 point ass whooping the left has taken tonight in poll projections and actual voted.

Democracy is a bitch when you're on the wrong side of history.
17
What's going on in the legislative races? All the focus has been on Walker, but it's only going to take 1 Democratic win in those 4 state races to tip the WI legislature back into their control.

Also, I can't wait for the new signs to go up at the state borders: "Welcome To Wisconsin: A Wholly-Owned Subsidiary of Koch Industries, Inc."
18
Comte dear, I hate to tell you, but it looks like the Dem challengers are losing all the races.

It will be interesting to see what happens with the Walker criminal investigation. This may all be moot. What will the Hee-Haw crowd do then?
19
Follow the money Lebowski. The money that was 8 times larger won nearly every time. Don't act surprised. This is crony capitalism in action. Take away that money and there's no way this guy wins based off his ideas, not that I'm any more confident about the other guy. (the one debate I saw was very poor, I'd vote for neither or just move to another state)
20
Btw Catalina, that pain in your ass tonight is not from your boyfriend.
21
The voters there are similar to the ones here. Socially moderate/liberal and tired of insatiably entitled crybaby public unions. How else could Obama carry this state so easily and yet Eyman's initiatives are also successful here?

Was it money well spent AFSCME?
Is that clown Gwen Moore going to write anymore ghetto poetry? That was sure classy.
22
The people over the powerful?!?!!! Holy shit. That is truly, truly insane. Walker raise over $30 M in this election, at least $20M of which was from out of state. Barrett raised about $4 M, only about $1 M of which was from out of state. This election was bought and paid for by the "powerful".
23
Oh troll, calm yourself. We're all having a nice time, aren't we? Sorry to remind you about that ongoing criminal investigation. I'm sure everything will turn out just fine.
24
Well, Walker is a wuss anyway, as if you're really going to control the "runaway" unions, you'd have the guts enough to take on the fire and police unions.

Then again, why not ask Kasich in Ohio how that turned out for him.
25
i guess the democratic party lying back and letting the tea party farce fuck them wasn't such a great plan in a mid-term election. perhaps fighting back would have been a good move.

this country is deeply deeply fucked. the populace (GOP regressives and flibberdigibbet independents) is primed to blame the left when the economy contracts further - it confirms the bias 30 years of hate radio and fox news has built. its going to get worse.

i suggest that Reid (should he be re-elected) retain the filibuster, and impose the same shut-it-down tactic on the GOP when the time comes.
26
Thank god for my Union. Thank god we're not Greece.
27
Fuck.

I lived in Wisconsin for two decades. Walker's policies actually hit close friends of mine who chose to leave the state after their university positions were gutted. I was one of the out-of-state people contributing to Barrett's campaign.

I feel sick.
28
@21, crybaby public unions? Bullshit. The public unions conceded all cuts and Walker and his cronies still killed them. On top of that, Walker signed—under cover of darkness—a full slate of anti-woman, anti-family legislation. Walker's bills repealed requirements that school sex education programs be medically accurate and science -based, interfered in the relationship between women and their doctors, prevented insurance coverage for abortion even in cases of rape, incest or if a woman's life is in danger, and striped pay equity protections for women, veterans, seniors and disabled workers.

So I guess if you don't have a vag and are filthy fucking rich, Walker is your guy. Speaking of rich, in defending Walker's decision to repeal pay equity protections, Republican state Senator Grothman stated that it is OK for women to get paid less because, "money is more important for men." Oh, LOLZ n' shit.
29
"Tomorrow morning (or late tonight) you'll start seeing blog posts and think pieces about what this says about the 2012 election in November. The truth is, this says absolutely nothing."

I'll take "Things Paul Wouldn't Say Had Walker Lost" for $1,000, Alex
30
"I feel sick."

Why, because your friends may have to get real jobs?

Barf away!

Oh, wait, State workers are underpaid and overworked!

UW employee spent hours web surfing, gets 916 hours of OT
Posted by Katherine Long

A University of Washington fire alarm control supervisor made 5,211 visits to non-work-related websites during a 16-month period, a state auditor’s report has found.

According to the report, the employee made visits to sports, fantasy football, animal rescue, social networking and video websites, and a personal email account, during a 16-month period in 2010 and 2011. The employee made 30 visits a day to non-work-related sites on at least 50 separate dates, and 192 visits to non-work-related sites in a single day.

During an overlapping 13-month time period, the auditor’s office found that the employee was paid 916 hours of overtime, or about 3.3 hours of overtime a day.

But university officials say they do not believe the employee was racking up overtime while surfing the Web.

As part of an $8 million project to replace all the fire alarms on campus, the UW had asked the employee and a second supervisor to work up to 3 hours of overtime a day, for two years, to supervise the project. The two men made about $30,000 a year extra in overtime, said Charles Kennedy, associate vice president of facilities services. Their base salary is about $70,000.
31

"So I guess if you don't have a vag and are filthy fucking rich, Walker is your guy."

THat's how he got 55% of the vote? That's a lot of rich dicks, he must be doing something right.
32
When someone can fight the police and prison guard unions I'll listen. Teachers and civil servants, meh.
33
He may suck at creating jobs, but at least he preserved his own! One down, buddy, some 229,999 to go!
34
"He may suck at creating jobs"

Unemployment in WI is 6.7%. National is 8.2%. We could use him here in WA state.
35
I was surprised at the spread until I read the 8:1 figure. And they say you can't buy elections...
36
8:1 may be Walker's spending compared to Barrett's, but it wasn't Walker's compared to the unions. National unions dumped in millions on this and came up dry. Those poor, sorry sons o' bitches went all in on this and got their asses handed to them. Serves 'em right for their avarice. They were fighting to keep their pensions fat and work rules light. Bastards.
37
Meanwhile @36, The Koch Bros. bought Wisconsin hook, line & sinker. Say "Good day!" to your new liege lords, WI.
38

I think most people (and I have to admit I'm one of them) still have trouble understanding why you a person with a Government job, which is traditionally benefit laden and secure, if not better paying (sometimes) also needs to be in a union.

For many, they look at Government bureaucracy as a form of union already. In some sense, Democrat Barack Obama is more the head of the Civil Service than he is a true President of all the People of the United States.

40
@37 That's right, the million + voters who rejected state unions didn't matter, it was all Koch.

You are no different than the idiots who think Obama won because of Soros and Acorn.
41
I don't care if they were outspent 80:1. Fuck you, Wisconsin. Dumbass fuckos who vote for scumbags who have contempt for teachers are beneath it.

Madison should secede from this shitass state.
42
@40 - But police unions are cool with you, right?
43
it sho is a happy day......
44
Given how openly corrupt, mean-spirited, and incompetent that cross-eyed dumbfuck is, it’s incredible that voters elected him twice! It’s like 2004 again at 1/50th scale.

Unfortunately, the simplest explanation is the best: Most AmeriKKKans are aggressively ignorant, hate-crazed, neo-fascist, right-wing, sadistic assholes, and they vote for people that are exactly like them. Our corrupt, incompetent, and criminally insane “representatives” are, in fact, representative.

I haz the sad : (
45
The Wisconsin senate may still flip to the Democrats, and even if it doesn't, the GOP's dominance of the Senate was already limited by the earlier recalls.

I would have liked to have seen Walker get some comeuppance, but as I don't actually live in Wisconsin, I don't really care that much beyond the symbolic value.

Hopefully this will spur liberals to get their act together, and take down that shield generator in the next sequel.
46
@38,
I think most people (and I have to admit I'm one of them) still have trouble understanding why you a person with a Government job, which is traditionally benefit laden and secure, if not better paying (sometimes) also needs to be in a union.
Seriously? Why do you think the benefits and pension are better? Do you think it's because the government bosses are just more altruistic? No. It's because the union fights for those things.

When the unions disappear, get ready for child labor (Newt already suggested it), working on weekends, no overtime, no vacations... if people think corporate bosses give those things out because they're just happy, shiny people, then those people are idiots. Corporations do it because they HAVE to, because the unions forced them to do it to be competitive. No unions = no happy, shiny bosses. Back to slave labor, thankyouverymuch.

Have fun sending your kid to work on Saturday for below-minimum wage with no benefits. You voted for it.
47
The Wisconsin Executive Branch: Brought to you by Quilted Northern.
48
The Wisconsin Teachers/Firemen & women/ Police should just quit and walk off the job!
49
The funny part is that a bunch of Washingtonians think they understand the mind of the people living in Wisconsin.

50
Those "cushy gov't union jobs"this that the wingnuts want to eliminate are not better, nor higher-paying than the private sector.

Pay is actually lower than for private-sector jobs. Benefits are decent, but not great. Work environment can be atrocious: no nice furnishings or equipment, instead a motly collection of used hand-me-down cubicles and such.

And drastic cuts have also gutted support staff positions ro the bone. Ever wonder why gov't agencies still use atrocious voicemail systems?
Thank the idiot teabaggers for gutting budgets to below sustainable levels.

Seriously, walk into any Fortune 1000 corporate office, then conpare it to any state or local gov't office. Rhe contrast is huge.
51
Unions were needed 60 years ago. Now, they are simply a place for folks who would be unable to hold a job to hang their hat and get fat. Unions and their associated expense are the reason China gets all of our jobs. They do nothing but pump cash from their memberships into political initiatives in order to better their own positions. It is time for them to go. Their 15 minutes of fame is over. Just ask the thousands who have turned away from unions in Wisconsin once they were able to do so. There has always been a better way and unions were once a part of that way, but no longer. Now they are simply one of the many nails in our economic coffin. For those who are a part of the union problem, I suggest that they become a part of the union solution. Get a mirror and look into it and take a hard look at what you see staring back. Then make some meaningful changes before someone else makes them for you.
52
@51
And when the workers of the world are all finally paid a pittance, un-benefited, non-unioned, at-willed, right-to-worked--the Captains of Industry will be sated. Cue milk & honey; manna; unicorns.
53
@51 is totally right.

60 years ago there were constant assaults on workers' safety and wages, and the idea that you should be able to make a living working a blue collar job was constantly under assault.

None of that is happening now, so unions are totally irrelevant!
54
"Have fun sending your kid to work on Saturday for below-minimum wage with no benefits. You voted for it."

I'm surprised they won't be thrown in the ovens first strawman!

Since Obama polled so well last night in WI, expect our great president to continue his centrist policies and not swing to the loony left. He knows where the values lie in this great country, in the center, not the radical fringes of either the left or the right.

55
Every person I have ever met that was anti-union was just jealous that they weren't in a union.
56
Anybody who thinks that unions have uniformly outlived their utility has not been locked into a Walmart overnight stocking shelves.
57
@55 Nice anecdote.
58
@56 this election was about state worker unions not private sector unions. Nice strawman.
59
Good Morning,
@51 & 53 you have very good points. I wasn't surprised at all at Walker's victory and margin. I agree unions in America may be antiquated. They most certainly are diminished in membership & power especially since the 70s. They did their job once and did it well. But, I do recall in my early employment and voting life some resentment expressed at unions (paying dues, cumbersome workplace guidelines etc.) by fellow colleagues. They, unions may be seeing the writing on the wall. American labor isn't overwhelmingly manufacturing-oriented anymore. And, I don't think it will be that way again.

Paul, has a point. This election might not mean much for the general election in Nov. However, no matter how one spins it it wasn't good for the Dems and especially organized labor whatsever left of it.

FTR, I'm pro-shop and grateful for what unions have done for American labor (8 hour workday etc.).
60
ugh. how can my home state make me so so very sad? there was such a heroic effort put out by so many people. its sad to see that money has trumped passion and just plain old rightness.
61
Apparently exit polls showed 60% of Wisconsin voters thought that a recall election should not occur for policy disputes, yet more than 60% voted to get rid of Walker. And, as noted above, Obama had a 7 or 8 point lead among voters who were willing to answer an exit poll.

Also didn't realize this until yesterday: In a recall election in Wisconsin, the challenged party does not have to abide by campaign finance rules, but the challenger does. Innaresting.

I say the GOP governors should do everything they can to 'capitalize' on this election. Ride the wave, motherfuckers. Show us your true colors. Show all of us working and middle class fucks what's what, and let's see how things wash out in November. Do it! Do it!
62
@61: sorry, more than 40% .
63
@59: I'm pretty sure @63 was sarcastic, but the fact that it was hard to tell probably means something.
64
@44 Original Andrew nails it. As America descends further into collapse, we're returning to our roots as a backward, racist, thieving, religious enclave run by a handful of rich people. It's not rocket science; observe what's happening in Russia.

The psychotic and self-defeating the tirades of the nutcase right are fresh off the plantation. They've been run into the ditch with the rest of the 99%, but are willing to kill someone over a glass of water or an armful of straw to sleep on. The system is hopelessly corrupt and we can't quite help ourselves... but maybe there are some surprises yet in store.
65
So depressing. I don't know what we could have done differently. Seems like there's just no chance, post-Citizens United, for even a well-run, passionate, expansive grassroots effort to actually win.

BUT: 119% turnout in some areas is no small feat. Depressing that it didn't help, but I'm proud of the effort. And at least we did end up taking back the Senate, so that's something. Plus there's always the chance that the ongoing John Doe investigation that's been taking down his former subordinates and campaign staff will end with Walker being perp-walked out of the Capitol.... ah, a girl can dream, right?
66
Yeah, I was being sarcastic.
67
Well, there is at least a glimmer of hope in that it appears the Dems have a good chance to take back the WI State Senate (although it's going to be a squeaker), which means Walker won't be able to ram-rod any more of his anti-union, "corporations uber alles" type legislation.

Plus, Obama still seems to be enjoying a comfortable lead over Romney among WI voters, which provides a bit of irony to the GOP gloating.

And of course he still has to deal with the on-going federal corruption investigation, so it's not exactly like he's coming out of this completely vindicated; and in the long-run it may turn out to be more of a Pyrrhic Victory than the GOP and his corporate handlers would like to let on.
68
Still depressed ladies?
69
As someone who actually knows something about unions, and doesn't base his opinions on simple-minded right-wing talking points, or the bitter rantings of a dim-witted elderly relative, I would like to offer a few thoughts.

First, unions aren't perfect. Their biggest failing -in my opinion- is that they are ran by people who used to be rank-and-file, so the leadership tends to be backward-looking.

They tend to be beurocratic, and rules oriented. In some fields - electricians, for example - this is absolutely essential, for both life and property depend on strict adherence to safety practices. For things like office workers, however, it's counter-productive.

They have anachronistic elements: I, for one, feel that they have no place in the disciplinary process. They should be there for negotiating wages, benefits, and working conditions that affect the wider membership, and leave discipline to the HR department.

They depend too much on seniority. Seniority has its place, but it needs to tempered with performance expectations when considering promotions and furloughs.

With all that said, I think unions are absolutely necessary institutions, particularly in the private sector, and across the board in the trades. Their political advocacy, though meager compared to corporate bucks, is necessary as well.

I'm from Milwaukee, spent multiple days in Madison for the protests last year, signed the recall petition, voted Barrett, and saw many people stand up together to fight Scott Walker and do much more than I did. I saw people who didn't sleep for days, to keep the Capitol open. I saw people go door-to-door for hours to collect recall petition signatures. I saw tens of thousands of people come out in a Wisconsin winter to stand together against union-busting and assaults on the middle class.

To those of you here who are calling us Badgers idiots and assholes and all the other things: fuck you. These past 18 months have been hard and horribly divisive to our state, and you can't understand how bitterly we fought this. So please don't spit on us when we're down. This election, Scott Walker, and Wisconsin have been bought and paid for, that's no lie. But we didn't sell ourselves willingly.

Again: fuck you, you smug bastards. Keep on rubbing that salt in our wounds, and know your petty name-calling from the comfort of your homes can't come close to hurting us as much as this last year has. We fought hard and we lost this battle. When special interests, billionaires, and nutjob teabaggers come for your collective bargaining, your healthcare, your funding to support people with disabilities, and your free access to your own Capitol building, maybe you will understand this fight we just came through. And I can guarantee you, if the other side beats you, too, we in Wisconsin won't call you idiots and neanderthals for losing, because we're all in this together. Also, because we Midwesterners are much nicer than you.

(This is only for those people calling names and slinging mud, to the rest of you: thanks for your support, it's nice to know we're not alone)

Whoops sorry for a double post...I'm still angry and hungover from yesterday's election returns pity party.
73
@70 boo fucking hoo. The people of WI have spoken loudly and clearly for a second time: they don't want your bottomless nanny state. You lost so time to go occupy a job loser.
74
I thought this an interesting piece about unions:
