Lisa Brown was magnificent. Damn. Thanks for this.

can't watch video at work - recap of the comments?

genevieve, go read the blog entry that is also linked in this post. it covers most of it.

This reminds me of how my neighbor always made his daughters change the channel if any commercial came on that sold products for women's hygiene (this was in the day when you had to get up and turn the knob by hand).

Even if an ad came on for a second, this big fat fuck would explode in disgust and the girls would leap up and switch it. I was 6 or 7 years old, and thought he was being a complete child, just like these guys are in Michigan. Men can be so squeamish about vaginas. These guys need to man up!
5
thanks - I didn't see it was a link

Barb is a real bowser.......

wow

Jews really hate their babies.....

@2

Lisa Brown:
"I'm Jewish.
I keep kosher in my home.
I have three sets of dishes.
One for meat, one for dairy, and one for fetuses...."

I'm sorry, but the caption is misleading. Brown did not simply say the word "vagina" but rather slandered the speaker by presuming that he was "interested in her vagina". I think that sentence was extremely inappropriate for any professional situation, and she should have known better than to add that sentence to the end of her speech if she really wanted to be heard.

Now, having been trained for the profession, Brown clearly knew that by accusing the speaker of personally being interested in her own vagina, she was asking to be banned from speaking. It sounds to me like she intended to be banned just to get publicity. I personally found validity in her previous statements, but would be unwilling to listen to her speak if she chooses to disrespect those she addresses.

I've never understood some men's discomfort with vagina's and especially the word vagina. Most of us spend the majority of our time and energy trying to get access to one. Why do some of us freak out when someone actually says the word?
11
Fascinating! The troll thinks that saying a congressperson is "interested in her vagina" just because that congressperson wants to regulate what she does with it, is slander. That's right after the troll suggested she, and other Jew's, eat babies. Me thinks the troll might want to study up on what slander means.

If it's a different troll, well, tough shit. log in and you won't be confused for anti-semitic ranters.
12
This calls for a tampon flash mob!!

GOVT OUT OF MY UTERUS NOW

these are not congress 'people'.....
14
Their speeches seem very similar to Alan Grayson's astute summary of the GOP healthcare proposals a few years back. That is, free of bullshit.

its not the word.

its the smell.
16
it seems pretty obvious that Lisa wants the Speaker.

badly.
17
What the fuck are you talking about, @15? Vaginas smell fucking amazing!
18
Republicans hate vagina.

Can they make it any clearer?
19
Oh troll. We know that you've never even been close to within sniffing distance of a vagina. But don't give up hope; hold on to your dreams little troll.
20
Is this another of the republican's jobs bills?
22
@19:

Well, they were close to a vagina at least ONCE, but they would have been very young at the time.

@10:

Those same men feel a great deal of discomfort with just about ANY word referring to genitalia - men's or women's.

There's a term for this: "Arrested Adolescence"...
23
Those guys in the back laughing are total assholes.
24
So Repubs have no problem shutting down opposition speech. Not surprised. Hope the sensible people of Michigan vote them out.

And what is wrong about using the term "vagina" anyways?
25
What this woman did wasn't say the word "vagina." What she did wrong was imply that her colleagues were motivated by sexual interest. Still, the way she did it wasn't a big deal and it should have been allowed to slide.
26
She wasn't saying that her colleagues had a sexual interest in her vagina. She was saying that her colleagues had a REGULATORY interest in her vagina. Undoubtedly true, and far more loathsome.
27
No, @25, that is bullshit! As @26 said, she wasn't saying they were interested in her vagina for sex. She was saying that since they were so interested in regulating what she does with her vagina, she (and any and all other women with vaginas to possibly regulate) has the right to say the word.

Vagina is a medically-correct and used word. It is not any more vulgar or crass than saying the word "penis" if any male reproductive laws are ever proposed (LMAO at that thought because we know it would never happen - heaven forbid we regulate a penis).

This is a perfect example of the GOP's view on women. Don't care what we think or feel about how they view and regulate our body parts, but they do care when we speak up about it and dare to use medically accurate terminology and facts.
28
Oh, and as a Jew, I have to support her comments on how laws such as the one proposed on MI, violate our religious rights.

In Judaism, existing life is more precious than possible life. If it comes down to a situation where it is either the life of the mother, or the life of the fetus, Jewish law demands that the life of the mother comes first.

This is especially important in situations such as an ectopic pregnancy, where a woman can bleed out and die very quickly from a fetus that could never come to full term because it is implanted in the wrong location. As a Jew, if this were to happen to me in a state that doesn't allow abortion to save the life of the mother, then my religious rights have been violated.

Never mind the fact that I would also likely die, or that they have violated my actual ability to make life-or-death decisions about my own life. None of that seems to matter to those in the GOP. But, say that they have violated my religious rights, and perhaps we might make headway against their unconstitutional policies. Religious rights seem to be all the GOP care about anymore, so using it as an argument is a good strategy.

BTW, troll, Jews do NOT eat babies. Those portions of the Torah are only there to describe the horrors that awaited them when Jerusalem was under siege by the Babylonians and Romans. And there have been plenty of other people of many other faiths who have had to resort to cannibalism to survive sieges.

If you were to look more closely, you would see that Judaism forbids all forms of human or human blood sacrifice. In fact, it is so forbidden to consume blood of any kind, Jews go to amazing lengths to make sure all meat to be consumed is blood-free. My guess is this is why Jews aren't big fans of Christianity with that whole symbolically eating Jesus' flesh and blood. Very non-Jewish.

I just posted a message to Jim Stamas' FB page, regarding my VAGINA. I think my vagina wants to send him an email too...

Please wait...
