Also, love their shout out to David about "reading the Bible, cause then you wouldn't say such silly things." The willfully ignorant are the hardest to beat.
again, they are claiming they were hacked.

We are currently working with Facebook, Twitter, Gmail, and Apple to see who hacked Andy's account and who posted this message. Clearly we would never advocate for anyone to be put to death - We strongly believe that people are entitled to love whomever they choose, but they are not entitled to redefine marriage for all of society."
The bible makes it CLEAR that both testaments apply. Anyone that self-identifies as christian is a danger to themselves and others.

This might be a stupid question, but as someone who doesn't go around hacking other peoples' facebook pages, how common is it for the hacker to stick around and to read and respond to comments?
How horrible that they were hacked and someone put what they consider to be the unchangeable and perfect word of their unchangeable and perfect god on their webpage.
Why are they upset? Are they not bound by their own beliefs to claim that this is the virtuous word of a perfect god?
How are they being misrepresented? If someone can do damage to your organization by telling people what you believe, then perhaps you should not belong to that organization.
Also, if obvious morality that a child can grasp is more moral that your perfect being...well maybe you were wrong about the whole god thing.
yeah the hacking sounds a bit implausible...but look at how the post makes them look like astounding hypocrites (the bible = word of god = truth, er wait, but not for this facebook post...). if it is hacking, it is rather effective at making the hypocrisy point.
Can I focus on the people below "David" who tell him he really should go read the Bible after he cites a bunch of stuff that is, you know, actually in the Bible?
I don't like these people, but hacking seems pretty plausible to me; these organisations are generally pretty careful to protect their public image, and this is clearly WAY off-message. I'm very happy for them to look bad, but don't really feel the need to join in their games of Bearing False Witness when actually their story is pretty plausible.
10: Anyone who wants their hacking to be remotely effective? A thought experiment: if the post had been "We <3 Gay Sex!", how many blogs would be covering this story now? I'm guessing none. Effective hacking is when it makes people actually believe something about the person or organisation hacked.
Good God. How in the world have these people managed to convince themselves that any of the rest of us should give a shit about what the(ir interpretation of) bible says?
I know a lot of really "christian" people, some of whom are religious, some of whom aren't. None of them would ever dare to try to impose the beliefs by which they choose to live their own lives onto anyone else.
@26: Um, because they've convinced themselves that they possess the only true knowledge. And because evangelical Cindys are operating on the used car lot paradigm -- mediocre product, insanely aggressive sales.
@26 You know, I think the same thing, but then the polling results come back and I realize that there are clearly some Christians out there that I don't know.
"The longer it is, the more convoluted the language, the more likely we are to just scroll to the bottom and click 'I Agree'; y'know, like iTunes' licensing agreement, or the Bible."
As someone who's read the Bible moderately extensively, I don't know what those other posters are trying to say about David. The Bible does mention those very things. It ALSO has a lot of great stuff about how people should be freakin' nice to each other. This Leviticus and stoning bit is like handing someone the complete works of Shakespeare and they only ever want to reenact the dog pee speech from Two Gentlemen of Verona.
I think that people should be polite period, but I wouldn't object to LGBT people or anyone else reserving their polite points for people who are polite to them.
They finally took it down this afternoon - after all the "omgwegothackedwaaaaaaaaah!" hubbub, I guess they finally realized that nobody believed their crap.
I love how these Cindy bigots own up to their post by lying about having put it there it in the first place. Typical Christians of today.
When I was your age, the biggest asshole Christians were the sanctimonious born-agains who were drunks, or they had taken too many drugs and had to dig their way out by getting saved. They all had weird foreheads and scary eyes.
These days, they're worse and there's a lot more of them. They all say you have to believe. Be one of the believers... They're great believers, but they can't be bothered to read/understand and therefore BELIEVE basic information about science, evolution, the physical world, and human sexuality. If your car breaks down, you don't pray over it and expect it to heal, for fuck's sake. That just doesn't make any sense. Why would it work for anything else? And why bother, when there is something called "reality" that you can use to find a mechanic who hopefully won't charge you and arm and a leg...
Dan, I understand why we have to be more polite, more honorable, more disciplined in our approach when we deal with the fuckwads. It's not because of Jesus, but because of power. They historically have had more money, more access to power than we do. This is common to any oppressed group. All the crap they pull, they project onto us. (and yes, I'm identifying myself as an oppressed group. I'm white, male, and I also have clues and want the best for everyone. those in power hate people like me, they always have, and they've always made me aware of it.) We're the bullies, we're the intolerant, we're the ones preventing society from being perfect, which they will continue to yell at us when they pepper spray us, beat us and imprison us. The sad fact is, we have to take it. We have to show them that they are the fuckwads by not responding in kind. To paraphrase Lennon, once you act like they do, they've got you. Because you're now playing their game.
Which doesn't mean you shouldn't call out GOProud as the idiot faggots that they are, or describe the Bible as bullshit, or whatever umbrage du jour they order up. It does mean that you have to act like you want to be treated: w/ decency, w/ respect, w/ politeness. When you do that, you expose them for the horrible shitbag hypocrites they are, worshiping a supposed god of love while all the time hating.
I love people who scream that Leviticus doesn't apply on a post that originated with, um, a quote from Leviticus.
I had a pastor (not a fundy fruitbat) once tell me that if everyone followed Leviticus, we'd basically all be standing around stoning one another. There'd be no one left standing.
Another case of cowardly hiding hate behind religion. I don't get why deliberately misquoting bible passages out of context proves anything? Its just a broken record and a big shortcut for thinking. If you repeat something enough does it become a fact? The bible is not an owners manual, it should be understood in light of human experience not a vacuum. How do you reconcile the commandment "Thou shalt not kill" with this passage? Doesn't it present a dilemma? And that's the point.
I could easily believe that they planted an operative in a pro-equality group to "hack" them. Easily done. And it's not the sort of thing that works in reverse.
I remember reading somewhere that that verse was actually referring to certain pagan rituals for Baal or whatever. So basically it was saying, "Dudes, don't screw each other to give praise to Baal, because like, I'm not down with Baal. Rival god and stuff. So yeah, don't worship him."
Seriously, if you REALLY want to use biblical justifications to take away my rights, just let this one go and pick one of the other five verses that vaguely deal with gay acts. Unless I should be put to death. In which case, I may start considering any recitation of this verse I hear a direct threat on my life and call the police on you. Partly out of a desire to be a douche, mostly out of a desire for people to start thinking and cut this shit out.
There are two really interesting parts to this. One, the poster who said "maybe tone it back a little," who may have been in support of the marriage ban, and someone accused him of being ashamed. Then you have the guy telling another responder to "read his Bible," when he was accurately quoting Leviticus laws.
Fuck you, autocorrect.
Also, love their shout out to David about "reading the Bible, cause then you wouldn't say such silly things." The willfully ignorant are the hardest to beat.

Spoiler alert: all of that is in there. In the same book as the stuff about gay people!

I'm using that now. I hope I hear someone else around me use it colloquially as well.
