I'm very happy for them to look bad, but don't really feel the need to join in their games of Bearing False Witness when actually their story is pretty plausible.

As someone who's read the Bible moderately extensively, I don't know what those other posters are trying to say about David. The Bible does mention those very things. It ALSO has a lot of great stuff about how people should be freakin' nice to each other. This Leviticus and stoning bit is like handing someone the complete works of Shakespeare and they only ever want to reenact the dog pee speech from Two Gentlemen of Verona.

I think that people should be polite period, but I wouldn't object to LGBT people or anyone else reserving their polite points for people who are polite to them.

When I was your age, the biggest asshole Christians were the sanctimonious born-agains who were drunks, or they had taken too many drugs and had to dig their way out by getting saved. They all had weird foreheads and scary eyes.
These days, they're worse and there's a lot more of them. They all say you have to believe. Be one of the believers... They're great believers, but they can't be bothered to read/understand and therefore BELIEVE basic information about science, evolution, the physical world, and human sexuality. If your car breaks down, you don't pray over it and expect it to heal, for fuck's sake. That just doesn't make any sense. Why would it work for anything else? And why bother, when there is something called "reality" that you can use to find a mechanic who hopefully won't charge you and arm and a leg...

Dan, I understand why we have to be more polite, more honorable, more disciplined in our approach when we deal with the fuckwads. It's not because of Jesus, but because of power. They historically have had more money, more access to power than we do. This is common to any oppressed group. All the crap they pull, they project onto us. I had a pastor (not a fundy fruitbat) once tell me that if everyone followed Leviticus, we'd basically all be standing around stoning one another. There'd be no one left standing.

Another case of cowardly hiding hate behind religion. I don't get why deliberately misquoting bible passages out of context proves anything? Its just a broken record and a big shortcut for thinking. If you repeat something enough does it become a fact? The bible is not an owners manual, it should be understood in light of human experience not a vacuum. How do you reconcile the commandment "Thou shalt not kill" with this passage? Doesn't it present a dilemma? And that's the point.

I could easily believe that they planted an operative in a pro-equality group to "hack" them. Easily done. And it's not the sort of thing that works in reverse.

I remember reading somewhere that that verse was actually referring to certain pagan rituals for Baal or whatever. So basically it was saying, "Dudes, don't screw each other to give praise to Baal, because like, I'm not down with Baal. Rival god and stuff. So yeah, don't worship him."

There are two really interesting parts to this. One, the poster who said "maybe tone it back a little," who may have been in support of the marriage ban, and someone accused him of being ashamed. Then you have the guy telling another responder to "read his Bible," when he was accurately quoting Leviticus laws.
