As Attorney General Rob McKenna explains this morning, "The national political debate sometimes oversimplifies and narrowly defines 'women’s issues.'" That's according to a press release that he didn't send to The Stranger (but he did send to other media outlets) as part of his campaign to be Washington's Republican governor. But McKenna—who opposes the Reproductive Parity Act—won't stand for that oversimplifying! As his campaign puts it: "McKenna rejects this kind of generalizing and seeks to engage women on the wide range of issues important to them and all Washingtonians."

So he's hosting a Statewide Women’s Leadership Luncheon today (theoretically with women who don't care about simplefied things like requiring insurance companies to cover services that women may need) because, his press release continues, "women will play a key role in implementing my New Direction for Washington State plan."

Isn't that nice of women to help out McKenna?

I've posted his full press release after the jump.

McKenna to Host Statewide Women’s Leadership Luncheon

The national political debate sometimes oversimplifies and narrowly defines “women’s issues.” Attorney General Rob McKenna rejects this kind of generalizing and seeks to engage women on the wide range of issues important to them and all Washingtonians – such as improving our public schools, increasing business activity and hiring in the region, and changing the culture of state government in Olympia. On Friday, July 20, 2012, at noon, McKenna will host a sold-out luncheon with hundreds of the State’s female leaders to have a conversation about their priorities. Gathering questions submitted from around the state, this unique event will give McKenna an opportunity to connect with a diverse group of women focused on civic involvement.

“Washington State has a long history of empowering its female leaders,” said McKenna. “They are our business executives, our philanthropists, our software engineers, and our elected officials. Undoubtedly, women will play a key role in implementing my New Direction for Washington State plan. I look forward to sitting down with this group of leaders and role models to hear more about their ideas and solutions to the challenges that face our state.”

The main luncheon will be held in downtown Seattle, but will also be live-streamed to 14 satellite locations around the state. Please contact the McKenna campaign to find a luncheon near you.
