"Probably not, unless you Catholics who claim to be 'the good ones' demand it."
Eh, I doubt this makes much difference no matter what. Why? Because I can't imagine that report never sees the light of day, no matter who the next pope is.
...Which is not to minimize anything in this report, or anything like that. There is some serious fucked up stuff going on here, and I'm not trying to minimize or condone it. Just saying, they'll go right on covering it up, and scapegoating/demonizing the ones they can't hide.
When I heard that Ratzzi was gonna keep living with his "personal secretary" my fist thought was "please Jesus, let Ratzzi be gay and get popped." But, this may even be better.
Indeed, seems illogical. An organization rife with gays spends its time harassing and condemning gays. Then these same gays have gay sex with other gays who "scandalize" the gay-hating gays.
May Pope Rat rot in the fetid stew of ignorance & hatred that he & the Catholic Church have perpetuated for centuries! How can anyone be dumb enough to continue to support these strange old buzzards with their bizarre voodoo & superstitions & fairy tales? ...hocus-pocus-dominocus indeed!
I call upon you, Pope Rat, to submit yourself to the Court at the Hague, to be prosecuted for your crimes against humanity. And in the meantime, time to tax the Criminal Catholic Empire!
Also, the Italian president threatened that if the ex-pope left the Vatican he would be arrested for his part in aiding and abetting child abuse and pornography.
Lots of fun & interesting parallells between the church & the GOP they infest. I agree with @1 that this will probably never get the recognition it deserves. But if it did, it could serve to further fragment an already divided community, much the same way you have those ideological Republican purists who refuse to compromise their "principles" under any circumstances pitted against a more sane and moderate contingent that would acknowledge homosexuals deserve equal rights and that climate change is real.
Is Catholicism that much of a threat to central banker-backed Fabian Socialism/Communitarianism, that the Slog must regularly print hate-filled articles against Catholics? The Catholic Church has been the world's #1 organization working toward helping people in need, for several decades.
The Church began in scandal, as all institutions that concentrate power over the many into the hands of the few do. It's been rotten to the core as long as it has existed. From Benedict IX, who sold the papacy and conducted mass orgies in the Vatican himself, to Pope Pius XII, who signed treaties with Hitler and never excommunicated a single Nazi, except Goebbels, who got the axe for marrying a Protestant. From Mother Theresa, who lobbied against contraception, to Cyril of Alexandria, who dragged a mathematician and Librarian of Alexandria into the street and had her murdered in broad daylight. These supposed "keepers of morality" have been anything but.
Why don't we socially engineer folks to hate organized religion? That will make it easier to convert them to the central banker-sponsored organized religion that portends to worship Mother Nature -- thereby removing any threats to central banker power, at the same time. Just like China, and all the communist countries do.
The New York Daily News. Ah, now THERE's a trustworthy source. Don't know La Repubblica's reputation but a bunch of vagueness punctuated with a couple of oddly specific details smells a bit of Friday fishiness. Oh, I'm sure the church is guilty of a multitude of crimes but I have my doubts about them being documented "in two volumes bound in red covers".
In accordance with what @1 said, the official reason is still a valid reason, Benedict XVI is really sick and frail. His brother says he can hardly walk, and his doctor has forbidden any more airplane trips.
All these factors can be true, and he still could have easily followed tradition and continued his papacy until death no matter how hot the scandals get.
The Pope is simply pooped out. Get it?
And if neither of these are possible, then I think the cards should pick Carl Icahn. yes yes, I know he's not catholic. But what the church really needs now is a total makeover, which only a high powered business magnate can provide. Pope Carl's first speech should go roughly as follows "Its time we stopped pretending that this is anything other than what it really is. We are a gigantic, and immensely successful corporation". this evangelist of capitalism can replace those cassocks with charcoal suits, an finally pursue copyright protection for the holy bible. No more worries about schisms or heretics, since the breakaway sects can always be hauled into court for using the scriptures without permission. This ought to cause the church's stock to rise over night, as they always do when Icahn takes over.
Hmmm.... Red covers, kept in a safe in the papal apartments. I hope the book isn't too stained and sticky by the time it gets passed along to the next pope.
The Pages Bound between Red Covers needs to be secreted beneath the key stone at Arago's crossing of the Paris Meridian, the pages themselves sealed by the Papal Seed.

Never let it be said that Catholics won't stoop to gay-bashing to hide the fact they are child rapists.

And yes I mean Dan, Andrew Sullivan and even Stephen Colbert.
