A rally for getting the NBA to bring basketball back to Seattle, with shirts that tell said league to go fuck itself. Makes perfect sense. #saidnooneever
@9, I like Chris Hansen's move over the weekend to make Stern look like a total asshole. I wish somebody would play Bettman like that kind of fool, and then maybe we could have them both at a Congressional hearing explaining why it is okay to require someone to take an offer of $60m less to sell a team.
@5 because unlike MOST alternatively newsweeklies which take an anti-establishment, anti-corporate and pro-commoner position, the Stranger is a big suck-up to power. no pun intended...
Because, in many respects, they're big government liberals. There isn't a public works project they don't love, even if it's for the benefit of multimillionaires.
It's a nickname. The "Sonics" don't actually exist, except as a bunch of guys assembled under a common nickname. Re-branding the Kings as "The Sonics" will bring the Sonics back. Sure, it'd be nice, fantastic even, if there was a continuity between former and current players, but the lack of one doesn't undermine the legitimacy of the current branding efforts. The Cleveland Browns existed in separate incarnations (though if your point was merely wish to suggest Sacramento shouldn't be deprived a team, I gotta agree with you.)
Bring back the Sonics? Yeah, man. Like, they were total rebels against the NBA system weren't they? It was a veritable workers paradise around here when the Sonics kept the streets clean.
Fuck you. The Sonics and can go fuck themselves, too.
Is this shirt for those who want the sonics back but hate the NBA for the recent decision or is this for those who don't want an expensive rich mans basketball team/stadium?
Good lord man, how about a warning when those links contain ghastly images! (was funny too b/c the pic wasn't loading initially and so I was just reading the first few lines of completely benign accompanying text, unsure as to what the relevance was. Good times.)
Not to be a party pooper...but isn't the name Supersonics an embarassment to Seattle's failed bid to build the world's first supersonic passenger jet, the SST?
Calling them "the Sonics" makes zero sense except in some kind of misquoted historical sense.
Sonics refers to a Seattle that went from high civilization to barbarity. One that couldn't deliver the promises of the 1962 World's Fair.
Maybe that's what we are. But we shouldn't be entirely happy about it.
@5 because Freedom!
