@4 I dunno, in every financially important measureable way(revenue, profit, EPS, dividends, etc), Ballmer has done better than Gates. Share price is the only metric by which Bill Gates performed better than Steve Ballmer.
And keep in mind, even during that time, Ballmer was Gates' #2(He's been with Microsoft since 1980), so he deserves some credit, more than he often gets, for those years as well.
@5 And the share price gains during the 1990's were mostly Microsoft riding the general technology stock wave, and had little to do with they way the company was running. Microsoft has been since inception a very well run company from a financial perspective, which is all that should matter to investors.
Surface Pro (x86 version with full Win8 OS) sales are decent for a table that costs 900$.
The RT tablets (ARM based) were a total bomb. Who in their right mind would pay 500$ for a tablet who's hardware specs are identical to Android tablets costing 250$ less.
Microsoft gave away - GAVE AWAY - 10,000 Surface RTs to classroom teachers at an education conference I went to recently. A) Decent way to start to break the iPad monopoly in schools. B) Good way to get rid of inventory.
I honestly haven't even turned mine on yet... Apparently it won't work with our school network anyway.
When you take over the world with shitty products, you get what you deserve.
I don't know anybody that hasn't been screwed by Microsoft at one time or another.
That said, Ballmer needs to leave. Now.
And keep in mind, even during that time, Ballmer was Gates' #2(He's been with Microsoft since 1980), so he deserves some credit, more than he often gets, for those years as well.

How else is the Fed going to circulate dollars to the northwest?
