Count on the GOP to do just that - something I believe people who practice psychiatry call "projection"...

When will The Stranger start paying their interns 15$ an hour.

@2 FYI....

But see, if we don't screw the bottom 2/5ths of our society and force them to eke out an increasingly meagre existence, likely holding down two jobs to do so, where else is the middle class supposed to sink to, if not those 2/5ths' previous position?

As Einstein is alleged to have said: "We cannot solve our problems with the same thinking we used when we created them." I'd like to see us move to a "post-money" society. The Incas ran a whole empire w/o money. I'm sure we can figure out something.

This is all just pandering unless they actually take steps to help this along. These local, county, state, and federal officials should be preparing similar efforts in their own jurisdictions. I don't know if labor law can be passed at the county level (though I don't see why not), but a $15/hour minimum wage across the county might actually have a chance of passing if all of these officials put their influence and not just their words behind the idea. SeaTac is a nice start but we can achieve more.

Tack on county-wide paid sick leave while they're at it, too. I know working on the Eastside I'd love to be able to get paid when I'm sick or have to take time off to visit my doctor to deal with chronic health issues.

@3 - Don't take this away from him. Beating this dead horse is all he has in the world. Besides, as long as he keeps beating this dead horse, we can bury the others he's killed.

Call mainstream dems insane? More a leap to call people with provably wrong political, economic and social beliefs sane really....

@7 - Your opinion is irrelevant.

If the effort here is honestly to improve the quality of life for workers by offering a livable wage, then why is it localized to SeaTac? Why is minimum wage being increased across the board for all of Seattle? There is an attempt here to get SeaTac residents' support by claiming that it will improve the overall economy for SeaTac but 90% of these workers affected don't even live here, which means they don't spend here. It would be more palatable as a community-boosting initiative if SeaTac residents who work at the airport (and schools, and community centers, etc) were being offered $15/hour starting wage to live here. That, at least, is a start to improving an overall community.

Let's all just sit in the dark and complain about the fact there should be lightbulbs everywhere while there's a light switch right next to us @9.

Please wait...
