Granted, Dom didn't give us a transcript of remarks here, but I don't see any congratulations from Conlin, so by your standard he's not a good loser, then. And as this is a political press conference and not a legislative one, what the hell are two Councilmembers and scores of staffers doing standing in solidarity with Conlin? Just by being there next to him, as opposed to, say, watching from the audience, Bagshaw and Burgess are pretty clear about their thoughts at the prospect of Sawant joining their insiders' club.
So Sawant is creating friction? Fuck that.

Hard to fathom that he didn't tell audiences that "It may sound like a joke but Sawant literally wants to have the public 'take' Costco and Nordsrtom and Starbucks." He could have made it into a very funny riff.
Her margin of victory was so small that had he simply quoted her, in her own words on her own election web site, about her desire to nationalize the Fortune 500, then I suspect we'd have a different election result today.
So yes, sarah70, you are correct, Conlin was blasé, even after her very good showing in the primary, (in which I voted for her, FWIW). I thought he looked bored and frankly didn't really care about the job. So in terms of drive and energy, there is a rough justice to Sawant's victory. She earned it.
Is she clever enough, graceful with people which whom she disagrees, to be able to actually use the position? We'll see but based on how she has handled herself so far, my bet is "No."

But then I heard Sawant talk at a candidates forum and much to my distaste I ended up voting for Conlin because I found Sawant to be boring. Humorless. Totally conventional and filled with cant. Too much BS. And I gather I am not the only one who gets that impression of her. She doesn't wear well.
A friend was telling me tonight that "Yeah, but you should have voted for Sawant, at least to get Conlin off the Council." And he may have been correct. So while I am glad that Conlin will be gone, I think that Sawant is going to be a big ho-hum.

Here we are ten days later, and you're mythologizing it. I guess we should be telling ever more hyperbolic stories about how Conlin arrogantly dismissed Sawant during his losing campaign. Turn it into a Romneyesque opera, maybe. Why not?
Many people voted for Savant just for the sake of change, and she had a well funded (from the least coast) campaign and really got her name out there. Most people who voted for her font have a clue about socialism except "it sounds good." They have no idea that she is a marx/lenninist, because 50% of the voting public is below average.
Already people are seeing what a bitch she is and regretting her vote. Like any rabid commie she is totally impersonal and humorless. She made her fame from jumping campaign to campaign based on popularity, If you have ever been an activist you will know how fast trotskyist will jump on a working campaign then run it into the ground. She is gonna get her shit recked having to actually work in politics. She will be done in 2 years and people who voted for her will feel duped.
The next election will be by district rather than city wide so it will have more local vote dominated by transplants who live in SLU or Capitol Hill. The district she lives in has contains Broadmore the only republican district in Seattle , Blacks and Jews were banned until 1976.)
