I think Erwin Rommel a pretty good German. He was Field Marshall in North Africa during WWII and widely feared/respected by his American and British adversaries largely because of his extraordinary tactical skills. He was also implicated in a plot to kill Hitler. I believe the fellow was forced to take a cyanide pill. Churchill acknowledged him in a speech to Parliament.
So, yeah I'd call the "Desert Fox" a favorite German
Wernher von Braun? Really? Did they name him because Hitler was Austrian and so ineligible? They could have gone for Goering, or for Eichmann, I guess. Fncking idiots - and that's the generous interpretation. If they wanted some ambiguity, they could have gone for Wagner, but von Braun was a genuine monster. I've heard firsthand stories of how his rockets got built, and firsthand stories of what his rockets did when they were used. About the nicest thing you can say about him is that he accelerated the shift from nuclear bombers to ICBMs, which at least in theory reduced the risk of accidentally blowing up the world.
Also: Anne Frank: inspirational figure, totally worthy, but extremely Not German.
What the fuck is this shit with the teeney-tiny beer glasses??? How the fuck do they have the gall to call that event Octoberfest? I bet all those people are drinking IPA's or some shit. Gahhhh......

Fffffffff I would happily, eagerly, ebulliently provide whatever amount of unreciprocated oral sex that aerospace engineer fancied in exchange for being lectured to about orbital mechanics or whatever. Jesus of fucking Christtown that is probably the sexiest thing I have ever seen/heard of in my life.
The person in the pic on Favorite German has one of the stupidest hats I have ever seen. The beard is a giveaway to a moron as his left thumbnail. The guy ain't right.
Robert Koch WAS bad-ass. So was his student, Julius Petri. And Ernst Haeckel was no slouch either.
And yeah, @12 is right: Buxtehude, Bach, Handel, Beethoven, Brahms, Mendelssohn, basically most of the great music of the west. We have to pick a favorite?
Alive today? Julius Adler and Christiane Nusslein-Volhard.
@33 Billy Wilder was born in Austria, and I'd argue probably more American than German (if that makes sense), but I'm glad you made me look it up since I didn't know much about his life writing in Berlin.

Not that being born Dutch would have helped much; the Dutch were piss-poor at protecting even their native Jews.
