Really Charles? So women shouldnt be respected enough to leave the buried where they wanted to be buried and not next to some random man? How is this not rape culture? This is simply the belief that women's body are there for the enjoyment of men, even after the woman dies.
Is that serious or is my sarcasm detector malfunctioning? For the record, once life has left my body you can do whatever in living all whatever you feel like doing to it. Prop me up in a chair and dress me up in funny costumes and put cigarettes in my mouth the wrong direction & stuff. Have fun with it!
Disturbing the dead is a big deal in Chinese and many other Asian cultures, Charles. Where a person is buried is a very important choice. Not knowing where your ancestors are buried is a BAD, BAD thing that could cause your whole family to be cursed. So these people are prioritizing their beliefs over those of others'. Not to mention risking spread of diseases. Lots of people are buried without embalming.
Ancestors are usually not thought of as ghosts. More like loving spirits with magical powers that watch over their descendants to protect and help them (sort of like the Nexus, they're both here watching over their loved ones, and there being at rest and have leftvall care and pain behind). It's believed that if you were a good, kind, generous, compassionate person while alive you will build up a lot of good karma that will confer good luck and blessings on your family/descendants.
I'm wondering what the people who think this is all a big joke think of Mormons baptizing Jews who died in the Holocaust to "save" them from roasting in Hell? Okay? No big deal? Perfectly fine? Should the relatives just get over it?
FYI, it's perfectly clear that you think this is funny because this is only happening to the corpses of women, and you fucking hate women.
I DO believe the human body has dignity, alive or dead. Sure, some people choose this kind of send off. I'm baffled with it. It is as though one is looking at you in death only and death is poking fun of one's life. Seems strange.
Personally, I find these "ghost weddings" ghastly. And, it is similar (albeit not the same) to what some Mormons do (baptize) to some non-Mormons after they've died as Keshmeshi said. I do find that disturbing as well.
That said, once buried the deceased should be left alone unless there is a compelling reason to be exhumed (a crime?). Let the person "Rest in Peace".

@13 agreed, a woman's body is her body, and it's not cool for someone to place her beside some random man. Ugh I really hate the no stranger writer calls out any other stranger writer for posting mysgonist trash. If dome right wing d-bag posted this the stranger would be all over it.
"it is by no means barbaric"
Which do you mean? The graveyard robbing, generally selling women's bodies, or the idea of dead women's bodies as a valuable commodity? All 3 have their problems, but the last is most dangerous to alive women I think.
Sorry Charles -- stealing the body of a dead woman is not only a violation of her corpse -- it is also a violation of the will of the survivors who buried her. If the survivors of the dead bachelor male want him to have a bride so badly they can ask his surviving female acquaintances who would like to VOLUNTEER.
Well, THAT'S appropriately macabre for the holiday. Yuck.
How insensitive of you, Charles!
Wait, what? ..hold on.. (listens).. My goodness! Jesus was actually EXECUTED on that thing?.. That's what it's about??... o_O
well nevermind then. They really don't get it after all. *sigh*

Good for you. Most people don't share your desires.

You have a point. I find this practice in China disturbing as I do this:

It's barbaric if you STEAL the corpses, Charles.
