p.s. re my comment @83 -- The $30/hr we get paid for using self-checkout gets distributed proportionally among all customers, so if you insist on a live checker you still receive a pro rata share of of the savings induced by us self-checkers.
You, Charles are a free rider on our backs, and you are encouraging others to do the same.
I pay by check just to piss off assholes like you, and I hope and I pray that one day you will be in line behind me and make some smart-ass comment about it. I also use bank tellers, because I have never paid ATM fees in my life, and hope I never do.
God, you people.
Here you guys are in one thread arguing for a high minimum wage and in another destroying the very kinds of higher-paying working class jobs that were ABOVE minimum wage. They were union.
Look companies like Kroger engineer your frustration to drive you to self checkout. They WANT to get rid of the labor costs. They WANT to bust the unions.
So they deliberately understaff, push out experienced workers by scheduling them shitty unreasonable shifts, and thus create long lines. Kroger and WholeFoods have a lock on this shit. Safeway is dying a slow low-rent death. Where the fuck else you going to shop?
THEN go hey, customer, check yourself out if you don't want to wait for non-union poorly paid teenagers who will only be here for a year to ring you up.
You participate with a simple selfish choice in putting people out of work to, what, to save you a couple of minutes? It's not a foregone conclusion. YOU drive the economic necessity. If you refuse to use self check out the grocery corporations HAVE to use humans.
You're only for equitable pay as long a somebody ELSE bares the costs, sacrifice, and inconvenience. And you wonder why things are going to shit?

What total hypocrisy.
