Sometimes, like now, I prefer audio-only (NPR) because I can feel the mood and energy better.
I'm generally of the opinion that liberals don't know what to do with power when they have it, being [sadly] better in opposition, and that's the feeling I'm getting now. They're pulling their balls out from between their buttcheeks and giving them a spritz and polish.
@7, you do have to keep refreshing Slog to see new comments (sucks; CoverItLive was better for this), but you can open the video in a new tab or window: https://www.youtube.com/watch?x-yt-ts=14…
Maybe Slog could have the video on one post, the comments on a second and make me open a new tab for each new "live" staff update. You know, for inconvenience.
I jumped up and vigorously fist pumped in front of the TV when he delivered the line about how we should be revamping infrastructure instead of building a pipeline. I felt pretty good about him stepping up and making a strong statement on the issue of climate change.
Missed it live so thanks for this summary. Spared me an hour of watching Biden's chin and Boehner's closed eyelids. BTW, is RBG wearing biking gloves? Did she bicycle to the Capitol building?
Dear God Almighty, Joni Ernst can't give a speech. I'm fucking AUTISTIC and I could muster more nuanced cadence and genuine enthusiasm than she's managing.
Her speech could be summarized as "I'm a folksy farm kid who grew up poor, everything bad is Obama's fault, the 2014 elections mean Americans support everything the GOP does"
For the record, EVERYONE wore bread bags in Iowa. Father Vel-DuRay was an attorney, and we wore bread bags. It made it easier to get your boots on and off over your shoes.
I wore bread bags too as a child in Ontario. But since we didn't have farm animals I never knew they were the perfect fashion choice for spending a day castrating hogs.
She said nothing specific except build the Keystone pipeline and repeal the Affordable Care Act. Is that all you got? Going to be a long two years.
We wore bread bags in Western PA, too, but they were under our boots to keep our socks dry, not over them, where it seems to me they would shred pretty quickly as you walked to school.
@13: I have not yet reviewed the opposition response of said congressperson to the speech from the current excutive in the White House, but in keeping with our forefathers amazing process that we have established discourse for our 13 colonies (+ 37 states), I trust that you will reserve judgement until you hear Ms. Ernst'a rebuttal, and that you will respond to it with all the grace and reverence as you did for any your professors of political science or economics in your education. After all, liberals are always the ones to complain about the 'bind eye', aren't they?
For the record: MIchelle is zipperlicious tonight.

I hate manufactured folksy. I really, really do.

Oh, flock off, sheep.
