I've always regarded Value Village with suspicion. They've always been the most expensive of the thrift shops.

And I feel sorry for the flower bed. They should just pave that stuff over.

VV is a bit higher-priced than other thrift shops but I still much prefer it for being so well-organized by both size and color. I hop in every few months to replenish my button-down work shirt collection and I can usually pick out 2-3 that work in under 5 minutes.

"They're dead, Jim."

Why does The Stranger have to be so snarky about one person trying to add a little beauty to their workplace? Maybe try and help instead of tearing them down.
5
Snark doesn't kill plants. Driving over them does.

I'm with @4. Did any of you assholes maybe try to give the poor things some water, or did you just assume your neighborhood was too full of urban grotesqueries to even bother? You do realize it's almost summer and plants need water to stay alive, right? Also, that looks like clay soil...not everything grows well in that, as I assume at least somebody in your office knows. Maybe you could have suggested she either amend that soil a bit with some fertilizer, etc, or plant stuff that responds well to it? This isn't fucking rocket science, people.

Thank you for the laugh, David @3.

Are they all dead, or just MOSTLY dead?

And Dan, that link to Plant Amnesty has a page on 5 reasons not to top. It contains all sorts of reasons why it's not good to be "dehorning" and "heading" and "stubbing"...

My inner 10-year-old is snickering!

@6

I'm with you. The garden was doomed to failure, but shouldn't we be making fun of the people who trampled the garden rather than the lady that tried to do something nice for the neighborhood? This is why we can't have nice things.

Look, it's a for-profit company, yes. But at least it's not a crazy anti-gay cult like Salvation Army, so I still shop there.

I planted them and I got a lot of positive feed back from everyone. I did it on earth day actually. And yes I dug up the old dirt and put Costco fertilizer down and we watered them. Silly me for trying to do something nice for the neighborhood. What was I thinking? Well I was thinking maybe some flowers will brighten things up around here. People loved it! The people walked by smiling saying hey that looks great! Too bad they got destroyed.

Please wait...
