@1 Get over yourself. It was an unused medical product. Do clean band-aids and q-tips gross you out too? Don't worry, nobody reading your comment on this story who needs this particular product is looking to introduce you to the part of the body it is designed for so you are in the clear.
You're right though, the fact that they are putting disgusting chemicals in a product that's designed to be used inside of the vagina is fucking gross. Send your outrage that direction.
@7 - Because I'd rather not contribute to the landfills any more than I can help it, and because pads are full of the same nasty stuff that regular tampons are. Not to mention the smell and the icky wet feeling. And the lining tends to irritate my skin. I'm a delicate flower.
@6 Menstrual cup is where it's at. Picked one up 6 months ago - haven't looked back.
@7 Pads chafe, smell, are bulky, expensive, have to be changed frequently, and add to landfill. Menstrual cups do not cause bad smells, do not chafe, do not add any bulk to your pants, only need to be changed twice a day, and you buy one tiny $30 cup every two years. The math is pretty clear.
Commercial tampons ARE really bad for you, filled with bleach and other synthetics. Central Coop has natural cotton tampons for those (like me) who cannot do the cup thing.
And the line "I thought maybe I overdosed on food" as her initial impression of the situation explains a lot about her upbringing, as the child of two models.
I love my cup too (silicone not plastic) but there are days that it's somehow too high-maintenance for me and I just prefer a tampon. I will make a greater effort to use the cotton ones. They're easy enough to find, just a bit on the pricey side. I've sort of prioritized cheapness until now.

It's sad that different types of products still aren't discussed in health class.
