The "Donate Now" link takes you to an error paypal page saying "Sorry — your last action could not be completed"

"Sorry — your last action could not be completed"
3
Same error, check your link.
4
Fixed, sorry.
5
So much for the police motto: Protect and Defend
6
Done, and thank you for posting this.
7
Followed the link and successfully completed a donation.  The TTPC page still shows "Collected: $0.00."  It seems to be just blog entry text, not a live tally.
8
Yes, I just donated $25, and it still says "$0 collected." I got a reciept from PayPal, so it went through, but I'm not sure how often it gets updated. Thanks for posting.
9
The blog post requesting donations is dated yesterday, and it's the newest thing on the site.
10
I donated too. God Bless Duanna, and all people who are victimized for who they are. I hope her family is heartened by the generosity of strangers, and know they are not alone.
I am so happy with the USA's reaction to Prop 8 (and 2, and the others. . .) Four and eight years ago, when many DOMA laws were created, there was little national outcry. We were not surprised they passed. Now, it is one of the dominating news stories, and people have and will be protesting across the country. Change is coming, and quickly!
11
Keep em going - TTPC says the funeral home wants its money TODAY and I bet they're too busy right now to update their donation count.
12
$10 donated.
13
Done.

It shows around $700 so far.
14
Donated and I never donate (dirt poor). Thanks Dan for bringing attention to this.
15
Done. It seems to only update the total at a set increment - went from $0 to almost $700 the first time.
16
I'm genderqueer and from the South. This could have been me, had I not had the fortune to be able to use university as a way to escape to the Northwest.

Donated.
17
Done.
18
Jesus, this is heartbreaking.

We're poor too, but I just kicked in $15. I hope enough people come together to at least get her buried with dignity.
19
Thanks for posting the link, add another 15$ from someone whos never donated anything aside from old clothes.

20
@15, it doesn't automatically update. Whoever runs the donation account is probably frantically adding up the numbers due to the flurry of donations from around the country.
21
Damn, that poor girl. I remember first reading about her on Slog, and expecting it to become widespread news like the Rodney King video, but it never did.

I'm a Canadian folk songwriter, and I wrote a song about Duanna a few months ago, because I was inspired by her courage in standing up for her dignity. For anyone interested, you can see lyrics and hear a very no-frills recording here:

Also, if anybody has any suggestions as to how I might donate the use of the song, please feel free to email me (see the contact page on my website).

@20, D'oh! So easy to forget the people behind the pixels...
23
$50 more.
24
$50 donated.
25
$20 more. that's $24.93 in canada! thanks for the link.
26
$25 more... passed the link along to 5 more folks.
27
Thank you for reposting this, Dan, and thank you to everyone for their donations and generosity. No amount of money can make up for the horrible loss that Duanna Johnson's family and friends are dealing with right now, but at least we can ease their financial burden and give them one less thing to worry about while they grieve.
28
This is so heartbreaking. I hope $20 is enough.
29
Donated what I could.
30
$20 donated.
31
Wrote about this the other day, didn't know about the fundraiser... can't afford to donate but I'll post an update about the fundraiser.

Sad story, but the lawsuit is supposedly going forward against the police so hopefully that will prompt some needed change there.
32
I would also GLADLY donate to any legal fund established to try to bring these murderers to justice.

Please keep up updated, and thanks for posting this.
33
Collected: $689.26 3:30pm CST
Donated $50 thanks for posting this
34
I donated. Thanks for posting the link Dan. It's just so heartbreaking. Every step forward, and then one step back. You all who are in the area, keep informed- don't let the police sweep this under the carpet.
35
$25
done
36
why doesn't slog try and raise money for other poor people who get murdered and can't afford a funeral? oh that's right, he was gay which is more important then anything else.
37
I have just recieved an email from Vickie Davis saying that over $3200 has been raised so far, and expressing surprise that all this money seems to be coming from Washington... have forwarded the permalink.
38
Good job sloggers!
39
$10 donated for a little more hope in the world.
40
I donated what I could and passed the word along. Thank you for bringing it to our attention.
41
Two officers were fired after the attack; neither was prosecuted.

I hate that these two aren't rotting in prison somewhere.

I say the Matthew Shepard Act should be the Shepard-Johnson Act. Is there no clearer example of a need for a federal hate crimes law?
42
$4745 raised.
43
I was wondering why so many donations we coming from your area until Dan wrote me and told me about this page.

Here are the latest updates.

$5344.65 as if 6:21pm cst with 177 separate donations.

Not too bad. We are just ecstatic at TTPC. She should get a great funeral now.

Hugs,

Vickie

Sometimes, being late is good for the wallet.

Kudos, guys.

Really Dan Savage, REALLY? You go and post "it gets better" which does not recognize overlapping and interlocking oppression and then you post this which recognizes that it DOESN'T always get better for queer people, especially not those who deal with multiple oppressions or are trans (because the trans movement is not nearly as far along as and the gay movement), does this mean you are sorry for ignoring those people and leaving them out the first time? You posting this totally contradicts what you said before about it "getting better" for queer people WITHOUT apologizing first for ignoring people who deal with multiple oppressions by posting that "it gets better" BS and using it a a chance to OWN YOUR PRIVILEGE!!!! PLEASE Dan Savage, use this as an opportunity to APOLOGIZE for posting "it gets better" (even though i know it comes from a place of compassion and caring) and for ignoring queers who deal with overlapping oppressions because many of us ARE hurt by the fact that we are being excluded by this campaign and once again being lumped into the category of gay and that this is just another way for straight and cisgendered people to lump all queers together and assume there is a common queer experience when there is NOT! Please please Dan Savage, use your privilege and current spotlight to shine a light on queers dealing with multiple oppressions and recognize that we are all going through different things and recognize your privilege and even though this may at first glance seem like a stance of hopelessness it is not. It will say a lot about how progressive we have become if we start adding issues other than just gay rights issues onto the table, your campaign "it gets better" reinforces the invisibility that so many queers suffer from (and not just in straight/cisgendered community but in queer community) it is also silencing because it does not open up space so that we can talk about issues affecting queers dealing with multiple oppressions, send a message to people to EDUCATE themselves on these issues. Queers dealing with multiple oppressions are so left out of the mainstream queer movement, even mainstream issues like "marriage equality" don't talk about how our current marriage system is affecting trans, intersex or genderqueer folk (not to ignore the fact (even though that campaign does) that many of them have more pressing issues on their mind). So Dan get on youtube and post a video about interlocking oppressions and send a message to poeple to educate themselves because not all of us can escape our oppressions and some times after high school is gets worse, but this isn't reason to kill ourselves it's motivation to get people EDUCATED!
Please read this, and if you did read this THANK YOU <3 for taking the time to! I am very grateful!
