the connection seems rather shallow.
2
@1 of course it is shallow. It's Charles and it involves a female.
3
Norman Rockwell is often unfairly critized for painting a romantized portrait of America. But that's completly ignoring his civil rights paintings.

Also, Norman Rockwell rocks my socks.
4
Say what you want about the insipidness of most of Normal Rockwell's work, but his "Four Freedoms" and the series on racism he did in the early 1960's (of which "The Problem We All Live With" was an outstanding example) are still powerful in their ability to evoke strong emotional responses.
5
my GOD she's cute.
6
I hope she is taken under the wing of the baddest agent of all, learns krav maga and jiu jitsu, and becomes the coolest ass-kicker ever.
7
@5 - THE CUTEST.
8
Totally cute.

Best. President. EVER!
9
oh Charles, you went and made me get teary at work.
10
okay - this is too much - can i take her home to keep her safe - thanks Charles, this just makes me happy.... makes me feel so god damn happy that we out of the bushes -
(she is working that agent.......look at his face.....she's gooooood)

50 years ago black children escorted to school by US Marshalls: Today black children escorted to school by the Secret Service.

A moving demonstration of the progress we've made.
12
@10. That agent doesn't have a chance! He will be running many ice-cream related errands!
13
Sasha definitely seems like a charmer...
14
I didn't realize that Sasha Obama was a "problem" that the country has to "live with".

That's going in my list of things that would be racist if white people said them.
15
I don't understand either. "Problem"? " Have to live with"?
16
Yeah,,, more likely than not escorted to a very expensive private school. A school that Obama's opposition to school vouchers makes unavailable to thousands of other cute little black girls stuck in the hopelessly damaged Washington DC public school system...

Change you can believe in! (Hypocrite)
17
It is the name of the painting, nerds.
18
The problem he is referring to is not Sasha's existence but the special characteristics of the challenge of protecting her -- challenges which echo those in Little Rock more than 50 years ago. Yet the circumstances are light-years apart; that little girl in the Rockwell painting could never have so much as set foot in the White House, where Sasha Obama is going to be living. Is this hard to understand?
19
@14 With Charles, everything that happens is a "problem." Otherwise there would be no naval gazing to do.
20
I'm sorry if I didn't see protecting her as a problem. President's have families that need protection. That's always been. But I do love the juxtaposition of the two images.
21
Deep thoughts.
22
You_Gotta_Be_Kidding_Me, only a douchebag like you would want him to risk his daughters' lives to make a political point about school funding. Er, colostomy bag, I mean, since everyone is tired "douchebag." Tired of all bags of this ilk, and commenters such as yourself who remind us of said bags.
23
@16. Admittedly, Obama's stance on school vouchers has wavered a bit in the past few years (from "potentially open to" to "opposed to"), but he is definitely in favor of charter schools, which do offer school choice to those other "cute little black girls".

I think it's possible to be for school choice (and other types of education reform that Democrats traditionally haven't supported), but to not think that vouchers are the best way to do that.
24
So long as all the batshit crazy rednecks homeschool their kids in Red China, I don't see why homeschooling would be bad.
25
When the girls get older they are really really going to start to hate the protection. Could you imagine being 15-16 years old and have Secret Service around you ALL the time?!?!

26
I think if there is any "problem" with Sasha Obama, it's that she seemed a little too excited about getting so much attention during the campaign, especially during the convention. Once she had the microphone, she was off and running, and even her dad was having a hard time getting a word in edge-wise. Her sister seems much more chill and reserved. Hopefully being in the spotlight won't fuck her up too much.
27
@16,

Vouchers help the middle class, not the poor, as they rarely, if ever, provide enough to cover full tuition. Yet another example of your pig ignorance.
28
Both of those pictures have a little black girl in the middle of them.

Although one's technically a painting, I suppose.

What problem?
29
@26, she is just getting ready for her carear in politics. Sasha Obama in 2036!!!!
30
I think that agent is melting into a big puddle of sentimental, beguiled killing machine. He's going to blow the shit out of anyone who comes near her. That is the last little girl you want to fuck with.

It kind of looks like she might have a little crush on him.
31
@18, thanks, Fnarf. Again.
32
Ha ha you naive liberals keep posting insults about "white racist rednecks". Meanwhile, at least 93% of all blacks killed in the USA every year are killed by OTHER BLACKS. Also, "crime-age" black males make up less than 6% of the US population but commit over 52% of all murders and over 34% of all rapes in our country every year.

But keep on making cracks about the myth of how all those "white rednecks" are keeping a buhrutha down!!!!

Blacks don't need the KKK or white racists to keep them down, they do a great job of that all by themselves.
33
Folks, you're really not getting the "problem" comment. The actual title of the Norman Rockwell painting is "The Problem We All Live With" - i.e., bigotry. I believe the original poster is simply making an allusion to the title. He is not saying little Sasha Obama is a "problem. Sheesh.

Please wait...
