And then we have Dan Savage, who can't review a movie without basing the entire review on his sexuality. Look at Mudede. He can't review a movie without basing the entire review on a thought he had. Look at Megan. She can't review a movie without sounding like she's 13-years-old.

God ... did these people miss the point much? And I never understood why acknowledging one persons suffering invalidates another person's. It's kind of like comparing your x-girlfriends, too much trouble and not worth the effort.
3
The thing about parallel universes is kind of true, and it's lazy even though it's mostly campy and fun. It's also telling that the parallel universe villains were usually defined by their leather catsuits and lesbianism or bisexualism. Mmmm. Evil.
4
"fight in the trenchers"? I would say OxyRush is the one who's been doing entirely too much of that, judging by his ever-increasing avoirdupois.
5
@1 ... and I guess I do see your point there.

Kind of tangent, but Colin Powell brought up something about Rush Limbaugh ruining the "conservative movement".

Ok, wtf! I mean it sounds so fascist! No liberal calls their own movement a "liberal movement". We are always acused of having a "liberal agenda" which, in my opinion really doesn't amount to much. We have most our "liberal agenda" check list crossed off right now and if anything we are fighting to keep it from the now self proclaimed "conservative movement". Sometimes, I hear things like, "progressive movement" but rarely do I ever people who call themselves progressives refer to themselves as being a part of a "movement" unless they are anarchists or total communists.

It may sound like nonsense, but I think it's kind of big. The most enticing thing about being a liberal is that fact that most of us don't agree on everything. That everything we do is a compromise of sorts, that ideas become more fluctional, evolving, and gain depth. (Or at least that's how I felt since moving to Seattle ... I can't for the life of me give Oregon that much credit.) But to be debased as part of some "liberal agenda" or "liberal movement".

God, that is so last century (or before) thinking.

Maybe he should get out more ...
7
*sigh* Wow, it must really suck to be so uptight and bitter like Goldberg. Sometimes a space ship is just a space ship, guy. Leave the projections to the guy in the booth.
8
You know, Goldberg is fair game, but I really think it would be nice to declare a moratorium on cherry-picking the stupidest and most extreme comments from blogs and so forth and holding them up for scrutiny. They are not representative of anything. You could do the same here and arrive at equally absurd and unpleasant conclusions.

I think the endless focus (not just here, but everywhere on the net) on the looniest voices one can find is acting as a reinforcement mechanism, and encouraging extreme opinions, and driving out thoughtful or moderate ones.

Besides, it's so easy. It's sort of like picking on the handicapped. And yes, I know I do it too.
9
#1 is right on. Anybody who reads Goldberg knows those types of 'conservative' references are half tongue-in-cheek for the sake of his readers. You honestly don't think that take of Nimoy is funny? Goldberg is the guy you want at your dinner party to blow minds.
10
I'm surprised that they don't mention that everyone basically works for free; there's no need for currency as replicators and holodecks can give them whatever they want. Socialist paradise!
11
Paul, it's an internet rule that Lucy Goldberg's boy must always be referred to as "the doughy pantload".
12
What Fnarf said.
13
Banna has a good point.
14
Sorry, what?
"renowned Orthodox Jewish soft-porn photographer Leonard Nimoy."

How did I miss hearing about Nimoy-soft-porn-photos? Where are they? (I didn't want to read the spoiler section, so I couldn't track it down if it was actually in there.)
15
And yes, I did try to look it up on google, but I find that searching for "Nimoy softcore" at work makes me a bit paranoid.
16
Wench, why do you want to know where they are if are too paranoid to search?

Luckily Nimoy has his own site with his stuff. It's pretty nice imo.

http://www.leonardnimoyphotography.com/
17
actually, Nimoy's photos are pretty good...the fat ladies are especially cute. But it's a pretty ridiculous stretch to call this "softcore porn." Nudity in and of itself isn't necessarily 'pornographic,' is it?
18
Fnarf @8, ok, so that sounds good, and in principle I agree with what you say. But would you care to identify the non-loony conservative voices out there? The editors of the Economist, you say? They are a) non-loony and b) stodgily conservative by European standards, it's true, but they actually endorsed Obama last November. It's a serious question. We ought to engage with the best conservative minds, but it ain't easy to find them anymore. The ones who aren't over-the-edge have been in essence kicked out of the movement. I don't think David Brooks is giong to be speaking at any Republican conventions anytime soon.
19
@14,

As others have mentioned, it's not even remotely softcore porn. His work is perfectly tasteful, classic nude type stuff.
20
Are you surprised most conservatives would not like Star Trek? I mean if this is even close to the Gene Roddenberry's idea of the future (and rumor is it is pretty damn close) than naturally right wingers will hate it. I mean Star Trek is based in a positive outlook in the future, a working government that is a democracy (see UFP) and working with enemies instead of killing them.
Star Trek is disgusting to conversvative values.

Oh, and the creator of Star Trek was an atheist.
21
@14 - to add to what @19 said:

The book of photos that he recently published had the theme of replicating well known works of art using full-figured female nudes as subjects.

Art (in this case photography) echoing Art (well-known paintings).
22
it is of course because Nimoys' "Softcore" porn is way too tame and cerebral; for them it's the hardcore German Scatner stuff all the way baby.
23
@20 is right. In the Star Trek world, there is no poverty, people no longer care as much for material possessions, the Federation avoids war/military aggression when possible and respects other cultures/civilizations, science has been elevated to a position of enormous respect, etc.

As matter is to anti-matter, so is Star Trek to Republican values.
24
that and oh, the Ultimate Truck Accessory, Truck Nutz.
25
@20 and its basically a communist society with no money
26
Some nerd. It's Bajoran, not Bajorcan.
27
@20:

And IIRC, Rodenberry wanted Future Earthlings to be Atheists (the original ending line for 'Who Mourns For Adonis' was that Mankind needs no gods), but he had to bow to censors of the time.
28
If no one here knew of Jonah Goldberg, if he and his mommy were not solidly in the firmament of conservative stars, and if he did not have a cushy mainline publication job and make frequent mainline news show appearances, THEN I would say it's not fair to take the crazy shit he says and hold it up for scorn.

But, you know, we do, they are, and he does.
29
i wouldn't fuck Jonah Goldberg with Lucianne Goldberg's dick. and vice-versa.

Lucianne Goldberg's dick... Ha ha ha ha that harpie totally has a schlong.

I dare say this new Capt. James T. Kirk is a more accurate embodiment of all that is Capt. James T. Kirk (better than the original)

Please wait...
