How are you GenXers gonna like paying for both Social Security for Baby Boomers over 70 and for health care for Baby Boomers between 50 and 70 as well?

Guess you 30 to 45 year olds got snookered by O'blather...heh, heh...I'll love dipping into your paychecks for new livers and pancreases...
2
@1 I'd rather we all only made 75% of our incomes and had universal health care than the travesty we have today.
3
@1 dude, not everyone is as afraid of responsibility as you are. i'm happy to be a good citizen whose taxes help create health care for all.
4
@1 = ignore. First Barney Frank, now it sounds like McDermott killed. Here's hoping there is video.
5
@4 I bet you even if we had McDermott in High Definition video literally making misguided Tea Baggers breaking down in tears, crying "Praise be reform!" like a Southern revival, the mainstream media wouldn't touch it. And Fox News would accuse McDermott of practicing witchcraft to explain it away.
6
I'm curious how the local papers and TV news will cover this. The loonie teabaggers were outnumbered 10 to 1, but I'm thinking the mainstream media will give them equal time.
7
@1 ... and brains! HA HA HA LOL. You loose, looser!!1!!
8
"ow are you GenXers gonna like paying for both Social Security for Baby Boomers over 70 and for health care for Baby Boomers between 50 and 70 as well?"

Take it easy, old person. A stroke is a terrible way to go. Here's how we'll do it:

1.) Take the cap off Social Security deductions. Make everyone pay based on income, not salary.

2.) Open Medicare up to everyone, and increase the risk pool.

3.) Just for morale's sake, hope that you stupid Baby Boomers will finally die off in an orderly and graceful manner. If not, we'll just discreetly pull some plugs, and hope the rest of you get the message.
9
Paying taxes does not make you a good citizen. It makes you not guilty of tax evasion. Enough with the back-patting.
10
@6: I'm curious how the local papers and TV news will cover this.

Unless I'm missing something, so far the Times has no mention of the event on its home page. And the PI has this.
11
The insurance companies are not the the bogeyman for the Democrats. They are the Democrats sugardaddies. The trick is how to give the insurance companies a big windfall a la Medicare D and not loose the next election due to budget issues.

What's a corporate owned political party to do?
12
WANT. VIDEO. It needs to be put on every news show, if it really went down like this.
13
@ 1: To make an omelet you have to break some eggs. I am 25, I don't know if I count as a gen x. I am willing to live on less income, with the extra burden of an exceptionally sized elderly population, if that means we can finally to a place that is more perfect. What ever I can do to help with your ailing body parts, it's how I roll in a civil society.

Breaking News!

Hutchison backs "everything but marriage" law

Hutchison did not issue a similar public statement. But Jordan McCarren, her campaign manager, said "she does not wish to overturn the law" and that Hutchison would vote in November to keep it in place.

15
Video won't be too amazing. Yes, there were some hecklers but they were either in the back of the main floor or the front of the balcony. Yes, they shouted and interrupted in a minor way, but it was big showdown. Jim mostly ignored them while making a few humorous references to such haters.

"1.) Take the cap off Social Security deductions. Make everyone pay based on income, not salary. "

What? You realize that will end Social Security entirely.

Maybe as you say, Palin was right.

Under the guise of "health care", Obama intends to dismantle the safety net for the neediest Americans!!

18
good to hear. And on top of that good performance, Dan was awesome giving it to the right and speaking up with fireworks about health care on Oberman's Countdown tonight.
19
This is HILARIOUS! Jim McDermott - the guy who was busted secretly taping Newt, and who was busted by Bryan Suits on KVI for lying about his Vietnam experience- has credibility?

This is BAGDAHD JIM - a guy who would make Hanoi Jane proud - we're talking about.

The man is a LEFTIST. LEFTISTS have no credibility by definition!

And you;re lauding him? Typical America Hating Left Wing Scum.

You're treasonous traitors, too!

20
Most hillarious teabagger comment of the night: when told to be quiet so others could hear, a woman said, "It's free speech--shuddup!!!"
21
Lord HawHaw, you really need to get with your doctor about readjusting your meds. You're hearing the voices again.

@17: Care to explain your assertion? Or are you just going to pull typical teabaggery and shout baseless bullshit?
22
2
giving up 25% of peanuts is a good swap, joe.
but if you ever get a real job you think differently.
23
NASA is an example of what the government can do, when it has an unlimited budget and no competition.

BTW the shuttle was a poorly conceived impractical glitch-plauged deathtrap.

We went to the moon in 1969.
That was 40 years ago.
What has NASA done lately?
24
How was the "Medicare is Bankrupt!" debate won?
Because the 90% out applauded the 10%?

Medicare IS bankrupt.
It's a fact.
Obama will tell you.
Golob could explain it to you, Eli.

Applause won't pay the bills, girls.
Sorry to break it to you.
25
@10: It went up at the Times just before midnight:

http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/po…

There was also just a story about the meeting on KUOW, along the same lines.
26
@24: all the more reason to reform the system and make it solvent. our problem is PRIORITIES: no one wants to talk about our bloated, excessive military budget - that's what's killing our ability to deliver medical care to seniors.
27
McDermott is an ass. Using NASA as an example of what governemnt can do? Unlimited budget, no competition and no real accomplishment in the last 20-30 years. Impressive. I hope he did not stay up all night thinking up that one. Did you see what NASA said they needed to go back to the moon? If the governemnt forced NASA to have competition - NASA would be out of business. Medicare is an example that the government can offer great service - the government also is awful at anything associated with efficiency or cost control. I am for a public option BUT we need ALL need to be in this TOGETHER. That means CONGRESS needs to have the same health care as the rest of us. They need to eat their own cooking! If they don't want it - why should we?
28
@27: Do you have any idea how much modern commerce depends on satellites? Do you seriously think there is no incentive for cost-effective orbital launches? Is that your brain, leaking out your ear?
29
Medicare being "bankrupt" is like Social Security being "bankrupt". Both are easily fixed.

Get rid of the earnings cap on FICA, and scrap Medicare Part D for true pharma coverage: Everything for a small co-pay. Bingo. It's solved for both Social Security and Medicare. The programs are only failing because we, as usual, are giving the rich a free ride.

And if we open Medicare up to everyone, that will provide more efficient coverage for the uninsured, thus helping contain costs.
30
@1: Death panels should take care of that.
31
McDermott is a joke and needs to be put out to pasture and bring the rest of his sheep with him. The town hall meeting was stacked. The hecklers got their point across and McDermute the socialist would have been destroyed had this been an engagement on equal terms.

This joker epitomizes what is wrong with health. Look at him, he doesn't have a clue on his own health and he is talking about health care.

I challenge this clown anytime, anyplace on a one on one discussion and leave his sheep and drones at home. I will destory this socialist pig.
32
@31: You are pointless.
33
@27, 31,

"That means CONGRESS needs to have the same health care as the rest of us."

McDermott has said that he has Blue Cross Blue Shield. Most federal employees in Washington also have BCBS. It's also the largest health insurance carrier for private sector employees in Washington.

The "public option" would be one insurer of many in an open market, through which the uninsured would buy health insurance - they could choose BCBS, Aetna, the public option, or whichever other carrier they wanted.

What more do you want?
34
Old people love Medicare because it's FREE.
Doctors and Hospitals hate it because it only pays a fraction of the actiual cost of care.
The government has the clout to bully providers into taking even less but that doersn't magically pay the providers bills- they make up the difference with paying customers.
Throwing 50 million more people into a tax supported deficit boosting under-reimbursing program will only increase the strains already existing.
35
Thank you @33... sometimes people latch on to sound bites and never think about what they mean. By definition, a public option is an option. It will be available to members of congress as well.
36
There you go again Cracker Jack. Your name states it all, Cracker.

Based on your 2 posts here, I have a strong recommendation for you from a physiological aspect based on my extensive research on human anatomy, especially the brain. Have a brain scan done and also a hair analysis. Believe you have an issue with a neurotransmitter called dopamine. There are protocols to help you with that issue.

Dopamine moves into the frontal lobe and regulates the flow of information coming in from other areas of the brain. A shortage or problem with the flow of dopamine can cause a person to lose the ability to think rationally, demonstrated in schizophrenia. Also, an excess of dopamine in the limbic system and not enough in the cortex may produce a suspicious personality and possible paranoia. A shortage of Dopamine in the frontal lobe can reduce one’s memory. An increase of dopamine into the frontal lobe relieves pain and boosts feelings of pleasure.

As for McDermott supporters: In order to be an immaculate member of a flock of sheep, one must above all first be a sheep.

37
LOL Thanks for the giggles SK -- based on YOUR two posts here, I have a strong recommendation for you to get help with your ADD.

I'm making MY specious diagnosis based on the Google search of your third paragraph which is lifted, in its entirety, from an ADD blog. Is bald faced plagiarism how you graduated high school, too? Or have you hit 12th grade yet?
38
@36: Wikipedia doesn't count as "extensive research".

Then again, citing things like suspicious behavior and paranoia seems to be self-diagnosis, especially since you seem to be taken with high conspiracy buzzwords like "socialism" and "sheep".
39
Cracker, you couldn't diagnose a broom in a broom closet.

My data is from my research papers and my research is used by many. “If I have seen further it is by standing on the shoulders of Giants.” Sir Issac Newton and me.

Socialism is a buzzword? Ha, Ha, Ha. No, socialism is a mental disorder and sheep fits McDermott supporters to a tea as in Tea Party. And for people like you:

He who joyfully marches in rank and file has already earned my contempt. He has been given a large brain by mistake, since for him the spinal cord would suffice.

Now try saying something of substance for a change instead of wasting my time.
41
Thank you, Eli - for cheering up my morning.
42
Problem is that people who want to give up their income don't have any or not very much in the first place. What they are really saying is they want to give up their neighbors income.
43
Can't wait til all the under 30 baristas and Kinkos-rockstars are FORCED to pay for health insurance. They're gonna squeal like piggies when they loose another 15-20% of their pay measly checks.

BTW Mr Savage, why should I pay for the 75% of health care costs in the US caused by chronic conditions like diabetes and heart disease? Surely, the lazy, fat fucks who eat like dumb pigs and then expect triple bypass surgeries should suffer the consequences of their shitty lifestyle choices?
44
"Problem is that people who want to give up their income don't have any or not very much in the first place."

FTW
45
test
46
I, sadly, had to spend an hour at Walmart in Lynnwood last week. Seriously, I looked at these sad fucks walking in, over weight, buying shit 'food', driving fat fuck cars, and think, why the fuck should I pay for THEIR healthcare?
47
i hope this government option includes mental health so these opponents can get their heads checked.
48
@46: you already DO pay for fat fucks - that's how insurance works - people of variying levels of need pooling their resources to achieve a benefit for all. it's already socialism: humans are social animals.
49
42ftw
50
@46: And even if the fat fucks don't have insurance you STILL pay for them when they use the ER as their general practitioner.

By the way, if you're spending an hour at the Lynnwood WalMart you might want to start looking in the mirror regarding your own personal consumer choices.
51
@23 , @27: you have no NO NO idea what the Frak you are talking about.

Unlimited budget? Maybe back in the 60s... percent of federal 2007 budget to NASA: 0.58%

The shuttle a death trap? 126:2 is a pretty good ratio for space flight.

how about the 38 times that we've spent on "Defense" in the same year? I'm sure we've been kept safe for 40 years due to that...

52
@39: You are a child trying to impress with big words lifted from the blogs you scour trying to understand why mommy makes you take so many pills in the morning. Unfortunately, you don't have a basic working knowledge of adult life and parroting other people's words doesn't actually give you understanding or wisdom.

Socialism is an economic system and, as such, can't be a mental disorder. One would think a studied researcher into the disorders of the mind would know this. A pubescent, plagiarist troll, on the other hand...

So, SK, why don't you get out of the basement and try to focus on a game of kick ball with the other kids instead of furthering your reputation as the creepy kid who doesn't wash enough.
53
@46 If you are already under their same healthcare provider as this fat fuck, blue cross blue sheild or whatever....you most likely are already paying for their healthcare....plus you are paying a few more bucks so a rich CEO insurance dude can laugh at you! how does that feel?
54
Lord Brasil: "The man is a LEFTIST. LEFTISTS have no credibility by definition!"

Sadly, you exist. Even more sadly, there are people who agree with you. Somehow the existence of Western Europe, Japan, etc... seems to have evaded your notice. They run on a government which would be called socialist by you losers, and yet it works very, very well.
55
This is where the teabaggers argument completely deflates every time they whine "I don't WANNA pay for someone else's health care!", because they're already doing exactly that right now, just as those of us who also pay for health insurance, but haven't had to have more than a once-a-year routine physical, help to pay for their MRI or hypertension meds or whatever.

If these self-styled "rugged individualists" actually had to pay the full cost for their health coverage outside of an insurance pool, they'd be bankrupt in a matter of months at-best.

I guess most of them must have some really twisted idea of exactly how insurance coverage works, thinking that, through some magical process the $2K or $3K per year they (and their employer) kick into the system suddenly manages to pay for three or four (or ten or twenty) times that much in fees, services and medications they require.

I hate to be the one to disabuse them of their libertarian "free market uber alles" notions, but that's NOT the way it works. It's a socialist system guys: everybody in the pool pays in a relatively small amount with the understanding that most will not take out more than they've contributed, which in turn leaves excess to cover those who do. Some take a little more out than they put in; some take a lot. But the actuarial formulas insurance companies have developed give them a pretty good gauge as to who will or won't need additional coverage. And of course, they've factored their enormous administrative overhead and profit-margins into that formula as well. And heck, if someone who has been paying in starts to take out too much, or suddenly looks like they MIGHT start taking out too much, they carrier will simply drop them from the pool. But then, if the condition is severe enough they'll probably end up going to E.R.'s or getting covered on the public dime anyway, only that way it's off the insurer's books, so it doesn't affect THEIR bottom line.

So, can we just dispense with the disingenuous "NO Socialized Medicine!" claptrap? It's ALREADY socialized to a great extent, which is a GOOD thing, because if it wasn't most of you would end up dying a slow, excruciating death in some crowed, vermin-ridden charity ward once the costs of treating your cancer or Alzheimers or heart disease exhausted your savings and investments, which it would very quickly if you had to pay 100% of the actual costs on your own.
56
Well said, Comte!
57
I have no problem with single payer AS LONG AS it has stringent cost controls (that the wealthy can bypass by paying for extra insurance like they do in France) and fat fuckers stuffing donuts into their gobs every day understand that, no, they can't get a fucking bypass operation on demand.

I grew up in the UK and FRance and that's the way it worked there. For those of us who didn't want to sit around and wait for the NHS, we had private insurance ("Harley Street Insurance") that got us to the front of the queue.
58
Actually, "Baghdad Jim" was 100% right about not invading Iraq. There were no WMD's.
59
@8

That was a majestic reply. Simply beautiful. Thank you.
60
55 nails it. What say you, right wing trolls?
61
You all know you're not going to get your socialized, single payer system no matter how much SLoggers type, right? You all know that Obama is quite moderate and is not pushing your socialist wet dream right?

The only people who seem to think Obama is a socialist, rather than the moderate he is, are the looney left and rabid right. Thank god for the middle.
62
@60: 55 kind of nails it. there is no disputing that most people put in more than they take out. insurance companies wouldn't make money if this were not true (capitalism). i think that is a better way of putting it. said plainly, there is no disputing this idea that *most* people are already paying for other people's care.

unfortunately, this does not adequately address the actual concern of the teabagger. though this does addresses that sound byte concern very well.

63
Supreme Ruler Of The Universe: That's how the system works. The folks who are paying into the system fund those who came before and have retired. Nice move, trying to make it sound like this is something new in the last nine months when that's how it's been since its inception. You masticate publicly and expose your epidermis to small children.
64
"My data is from my research papers and my research is used by many. "

ha ha ha ha ha....
65
Cracker stated, .

Created by people with mental disorders. Got it this time. Called stealing from the worker bees and giving to the drones. Actually it is a criminal mental disorder which sounds like you enjoy.

How about you and I discuss neuroscience to see what your mades of. Would you like to start at the neuron level, dendrites, axons, synapses. First of all, do you even know what a synapse is without going to wikipedia? For me it rolls off my tongue without research. How about knowing how to build a more functional brain from a physiological aspect?

Sounds like you're just an obama sheep that can't think for himself
66
Obama health care is:

T H E * M O T H E R * O F * A L L * P O N Z I * S C H E M E S ! ! !

And the obama sheep don't have a clue on why that is so.
67
@65: bring it, bitch!
68
I actually just did a bunch of research about the brain/mind dichotomy for a show I was working on, so step up! I'm not a neuroscientist (nor do I play one on Slog), but I can keep up with a plagiarizing wanna be like you. :)
69
By the way, I'd be much more impressed if your last rant weren't rife with poor grammar, misspellings and generally pre-college composition skills. But please, Doctor SK, throw down.
70
As for Eli Sanders and talking them into submission, you're no journalist.

Set-up a meeting between your sicko McDermott to debate me face to face and I will destroy that mentally disturbed and sickly looking liberal.

Record it in an isolated booth and have a doctor handy because his appearance does not look very healthy and I especially include his mental state of health. May even give him a heart attack when I'm through with him so he will need to sign a disclaimer.

Now put up or shut-up you clueless non-jounalist.
71
Um @70, you DO know that McDermott is an MD with significant residency experience in the areas of both child and adult psychology, no?

Yeah, I would LOVE to see this debate. Just be sure to send us your mailing address so's we can get you the invite, m'kay?
72
For Cracker kid.

Er liegt vor meinen Füßen. I speak 5 different languages, so don’t bother me with dumpkopf mental midget points.

First challenge, from a physiological point of view, how do you build a more functional brain? Now let’s go at it kid and

Bleib du im ew'gen Leben

Now rush to google and you will not find the key answer there.

We can start at a lower level like what are the key points in the production of fuel for the body.
73

He is an over the hill MD trained in 20th century medicine probably 50 years ago. I on the other hand am trained in 21st Century methods. My focus is human Anatomy and interactions with what we eat, drink, causes of diseases and much more. And psychology ha, ha, ha. He sure may have fooled you with his psychology, but he didn’t fool me.

Intellectuals solve problems, geniuses prevent them.

Most doctors and I don’t consider people like McDermott an MD, solve problem. The people I study and work with prevent them from happening in the first place and go all the way from Nobel Prize Winners, nominees to world famous 21st Century Scientist and doctors plus more.

Set-up the appointment and I will be there. How about taking something simple like cholesterol and I will expose the fool. Doubt if he even know what cholesterol is.
74
You say you speak five languages, yet you have yet to exhibit the ability to think in a single one. You've proven who you are to anyone reading this far.

You are a sham. You are the epitome of what is wrong with the teabaggers -- you haven't the power of critical thought. You "re-tweet" the thoughts of others and try to claim them as yours.

"Intellectuals solve problems, geniuses prevent them?" You are neither. Beating your chest about some proffered cage match between you and Rep. McDermott? You haven't got the gravitas to ask a question of directory assistance.
75
Oh, by the way, I had to read Uhland in high school German class, too. You prove nothing, fraud.
76
Why is anyone wasting time on this pussy "socialist killer?" He's a coward who won't even take up Cracker Jack's challenge, puffing his chest about how he'd debate McDermott when the possibility of that taking place are equal to that of this schmuck has of visiting Mars.

Go die, "socialist killer." You've been pwned.
77
Crack head kid runs again and attempts to make this a match between him and I were he attempts to demonize. You challenged me and then you ran like a scared rabbit. How did you enjoy that German class last year? Most liberal/socialist are not one of these. Schürzenjägerzeit Look at your pathetic leader McDermott.

Before you start see this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2gOKhEHBN…

Lets me try again and this goes for the other lug head called sexless socialist. Most socialist are ugly physically and internally.

Now you jolted like a rabbit running from a fox on neuroscience. So let me attempt to make this more simple for your shallow minds.

What is cholesterol and be very specific? Tell me how you proved what it is?

Hint, Wikipedia won’t give you the specific answer you need. That’s like stating a human being is an animal. Be more specific and I will give you another try and educate you as liberals are basically mush heads.

Okay, now run again.

You can't ignore SocialistKiller. He is in your mind.
In your thoughts. Every waking moment he is there.
Dreams at night filled with his words.
Odd how Gods word gets to one.

Small is the number of people who see with their eyes and think with their minds. And you’re not part of the small. Neither is sexless socialist.

Pleasant dreams tonight.
78
Wow. Just... wow.
79
Funny, the only thing in my mind right now is the musical theme from "Looney Tunes"...
80
Socialist Killer, you're pure comedy gold. Your intellectual pyrite, but comedy gold.
81
Wise of you who responded to me not to say too many words as what you stated made you look foolish enough.

After my last post, I thought about the fact that many of these posters sound like kids, especially anyone 25 and younger, though goes beyond that age. Now based on my vast scientific research and out of feeling guilty of taking advantage of kids, I felt that I needed to share this with all and especially the kids.

Why do insurance companies charge higher rates for people 25 and under?

Because the lack of development of the myelin sheath around the axon results in erratic behaviors. According to scientists, this is like exposing a hot wire by removing the protective covering. When you touch it you are in for a shock. Myelin Sheath development around axon moves the communication of electro/chemical responses much faster through the neurons. Insurance companies use these conclusions in their rate analysis.

Also, the erratic behavior resulted in a higher rate of votes for Obama since it increases the risk of being brain washed. Another term is most are mush heads with no experience and hence easily conned by Charlatans like Obama & McDermute.

Bide your time kids, you will eventually, hopefully, develop your myelin sheath around your axons. Until them the SocialistKiller will educate you.
82
Honey, honey. Up the dosage.
83
And add an extra layer of tin-foil to the head-gear while you're at it.
84
@80 for the win! Intellectual pyrite - awesome!!
85
One point that seems to be overlooked here in these debates is: Yes, if you pay insurance you are subsidising others and receiving some sort of subsidy yourself. But, you are not subsidising those who are not contributing.
86
McDermott caught for ethics violation. People elect him in his district because they feel right at home with someone who has no ethics.

On March 31, 2008, Chief Judge Thomas Hogan of the United States District Court for the District of Columbia ordered McDermott to pay $1.05 million to Boehner, covering attorney's fees, costs and interest. McDermott also has had to pay over $60,000 in fines and close to $600,000 to his own lawyers. McDermott said he would not appeal further.
87
Please, people, for the love of everything holy:
loose=baggy, not-clenched.
lose=not winning.

A person can't be 'a looser', but their grip can be looser.
88
@85: a quibble with your comment: The cost of the uninsured who are treated as "charity" by hospitals is passed on to the paying customers in higher prices. Those higher prices are paid by the insurance companies who then raise their rates to you. It may be fractional, but that's how it works.
89
Eli, you didn't mention the single payer proponents who were at McDermott's townhall. Some of the heckling came from them. McDermott said he "supports single payer" but it "doesn't have the votes." This is a classic Dem line, which I've heard from him forever. "vote in the dems and we will end the war, get single payer, yadayadayada.

Here's an article that explains the current talking points about the public option, which in McDermott's case is his so-called "support" for single payer. When the rubber glove meets the road (see Mad as Hell Docs here -- http://www.madashelldoctors.com/) McDermott is AWOL.

The Latest Insurance-Industry-Approved Talking Point from Democrats
by: David Sirota
Thu Sep 03, 2009 at 17:15

The Associated Press reports that Senate Finance Committee Chairman Max Baucus (D-MT) says while he says he supports the concept of a public option, he also is making sure to say it probably won't pass[SUBSTITUTE MCDERMOTT AND SINGLE PAYER]. This is almost exactly what Colorado Sen. Michael Bennet (D) said - and I'm guessing we're all going to start hearing this a lot. It's a brilliant insurance-industry-approved talking point in that it permits Democrats to claim they are for the wildly popular public option, but just can't pass it...for no concrete reason, of course.

Noam Chomsky has written extensively on how the PR industry creates and limits expectations through nebulous terms like "politically unrealistic." The idea is that if you can create a conventional wisdom that makes something "politically unrealistic," that conventional wisdom becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy - even though that prophecy hinges on those making the prophecy deliberately making it a reality.

This is exactly what this talking point is - it absolves individual Democrats by allowing them to claim they support the public option, all while setting up a manufactured construct that says that public option is - for some unknown reason - impossible."

Please wait...
