You don't really think that Olson means what he wrote, do you?

...sigh. Don't you people EVER read your own blog? Or at least the ones listed under Most Commented?

...and @2, jesus, dude. Learn to hyperlink. You're using up everyone else's electrons.

@3: Ha. And... Ooops.

I don't think I can forgive Olson for his role in Bush V. Gore, because Bush's presidency just brought about so many horrendous consequences, but this is the best road to redemption I could possibly conceive of.

@6 if you think achieving marraige equality for the citizens of this country begins to erase the worldwide damage that Bush did during his term in office...you are so sorely fucking wrong. Olson is trying to usher in a new era of conservative thinking, the teabaggers will get thrown under the bus eventually, and without someone else coming on board this party--wealthy gays and all their trappings--its dead.

@7: You're assuming that, by default, all conservative thinking and ideals are wrong. That's about as pigheaded an argument as you can get. For once you've got an intelligent and highly public conservative making a rational argument not seen since the better days of Buckley. He's willing to do it in an open court and yes, if he took the time to write an article about this, I believe that he believes it's the right thing to do. By immediately dismissing any good that could come from this as 'not enough' is absurd and cynical past that point that I, who believe everyone is an idiot, am prepared to go. This guy isn't George W. Bush, who was and remains an idiot. We should be appreciative that there are still a few true conservatives out there willing to engage in open and rational debate without it devolving into a populist and demagogic battle of halfwits as it so often does, and as the Left is willing to promote just as much.

It's funny, but I still have hopes that our Nation can be a place where you can have a discussion that doesn't become about who is a patriot and who isn't, who's a racist and who isn't, who is a socialist and who is a capitalist. Right now we've got a conservative lawyer from the previous administration with the stones to stand up and say things our golden boy President remains silent on. That's shameful, and should inspire us to greater things, not to contempt and kneejerk condemnation.

Please wait...
