I used to be a rabid Mudede hater. The first thing I ever read that he wrote was his asinine and wrong-headed comments on Full Metal Jacket. But I've warmed up to him a lot and generally enjoy his posts now, and am happy for him.
2
Even though I think most of his stuff is silly at best and annoying at worst you have to give credit where credit is due. Grats as the kids say, also, Lindy you are dating yourself using "congrats."
3
I didn't know Lindy had cloned herself, @2.
4
Hey, is he making movies for the stranger now?

No?

I recommend you put him to use within his apparent skillset then, instead of blogging.

Congrats on the recognition for your film work Charles. Go make more films.
5
Awesome, let him go make more movies. Just don't let him keep posting asinine bullshit on Slog!
6
That is fantastic! Congratulations, Charles.

PS: I just watched that little feature on Youtube about you, and it was good. I really loved the metaphor you brought up of freedom as a bird in a cage that has been thrown into the air.
7
Just because Charles is good at some things and makes some great art doesn't mean he's perfect. The man hates rural people and poor folks and poor, rural Africans most of all.
8
Charles posts some of the most insane, inane, off-target, head-fully-engulfed-by-navel-and/or-ass stuff on Slog that I see anywhere on the internet. To occasionally comment on this is not hating Charles nor dismissing his other talents or occasionally good/interesting pieces, and is not deserving of "the opposite of congrats," is it? Congratulations on the honors, Charles!

Charles provides us with the boobies. Sometimes he makes me crazy. He's OK in my book.
10
wow Charles.
Very impressive.
Your talents truly are Pearls wasted before the Swine of Slog...
11
Felicitations!
12
congrats to Robinson Devor times two, too.
13
google "mr hands" and "wmv"

I dare you.

There's a world of difference between "Top 10 Documentaries of the Decade" (which is all of them) and "Top 10 Sundance Documentaries of the Decade" (which is what this list is).
15
Many congratulations Charles! I disagree with many of your posts, but love can't exist without criticism ^_^

Here's to many more!
16
In light of their recent performance at Neumo's, shouldn't Shabazz Palaces be ranked somewhere on these lists?
17
Chuckles is like booze and women. Sometimes he pisses me off, but most of the time I just enjoy.

Ditto @8. Charles likes to try to draw connections between things that make zero sense together. I think he imagines it to be insightful and thought-provoking, but really it's just irritating.

That being said, he's clearly got a gift with film. Congrats to him for these achievements.

@6, I only got a minute into that feature, and as usual, had no idea what the fuck Charles was talking about. Something about breaking a chair leg? With a bus? Or breaking a bus with a chair leg?

Anyway, I've got nothing against Charles, and he genuinely seems like a nice guy in that piece, but his over estimation of his perceptive powers is infuriating. He makes insane snap judgements on people he's never met, wrapping up their entire lives into neat little editorial bundles.

Anyway, gripes aside, congratulations Charles.

Given that Charles's film criticism, in particular, is a self-conscious pile of garbage -- "'Citizen Kane' is about nothing more than that microphone bracing against that podium;" "'Big Momma's House' is about nothing less than the death of the hegemony of nature over man" -- the brilliance and splendor of "Police Beat" came as a total surprise to me. The film is thoughtful, spacious, and lyrical!

Apparently he has a couple more narrative films in production; I couldn't be more excited to see where he goes with them!!

What a surprise...thoughtful and yet critical comments from Seattle posts-persons. Maybe all that coffee has had some effect. I think I'll visit after all... And yes...however you feel about Charles....the sum is greatef than its parts as the Devor, Mudede, Kirby team are a bunch of genius filmmakers.

Please wait...
