BUT, you didn't say where the meth book reading was going to be! It's happening tonight at Town Hall, I think at 7pm. The authors are David Sheff and his son Nic. Sheff wrote the non-fiction book, "Beautiful Boy," about his experiences as a father to Nic, a meth addict (Nic also wrote his own memoir about addiction, "Tweak," though I'm not sure if they'll be talking about that book tonight as well).
I'm a substance abuse research librarian and of all the "mainstream" books I've read about meth addiction, I found "Beautiful Boy" to be among the best. It's not just David's personal story, but it's also full of excellent, well-researched information about addiction in general and meth in particular. It's very balanced and informative, as well as totally heartbreaking.
"Tweak" is not nearly as well-written, but reading both books together makes for a fascinating coupling. I'm sure the talk tonight will be really interesting and wish I could make it!
