This kind of thing fuels homophobia. If otherwise innocuous, friendly encounters are suddenly "erotic", the straight guy feels violated.
Oh, he touched the guy on the shoulder. Wait, I know a guy who's patted me on the back, or gripped my shoulder...I thought it was an affirming man thing, turns out my brother is gay for me!
Sorry to barge into this thread, but SLOG readers are needed for a vital bit of culture-jamming. Dem rep Joe Stupak is declaring he'll defeat the Health Care bill over not getting his forced-childbirth amendment in. He needs to be called on this douchebaggery.
Look, one of the best ways to fight the powerful is by mockery and humiliation. It worked with Senator Rick Santorum and "santorum". Google the word. My suggestion is we make the "stupak" mean the infection which kills women who suffer clumsy, illegal abortions. Email or phone Stupak's office and ask him how many women he wants to have die from stupak.
Use "stupak" in your blog posts, in letters to the editor, in articles (if you write them). That's how new words get into the dictionary and into public usage.
Yup, you both are right on. There's some serious homo projection going on here. It's kinda sad and it certainly makes teh gayz look bad when you pull it. I'd drop it for your own good.
I want all of us fags to imagine having sex with that fucking ugly piece of shit. Just picture it. Now see how I helped you all lose 15 pounds after the puking you just did?
The whole "anti-gay politician is really a kinky drug-addled closet case" thing has just jumped the fucking shark. Why is this still happening? Are people really incapable of perceiving the pattern as anything but titillating coincidence? Fuck's sake.
@8 just want to note that I am one of "teh gayz," so we're not all projecting.
Also, why the fuck do we want to project on this ugly douchebag? I get it when the gays want hot douchebags to be gay, but this guy is fucking horrible looking inside and out. I can see the self-hatred oozing out of him. Let's just let him go hide somewhere quietly and hopefully stay away from us entirely.
@10, maybe it's because IT KEEPS FUCKING HAPPENING! It's not a coincidence, it's a correlation. Sure, not all anti-gay politicians are gay, but a disproportionally high number are, because that's the way self hatred and projection work.
This guy was my local state assemblyman before I moved to Washington. An entire Central Valley of California with Republican hypocrites like this and cowardly Democrats who refuse to stand up to them even though we all know they're snotty, lying hypocrites.
@8, I hate this idea of "you're making [gays] look bad." Whether you personally are gay or not, it's not your place to expect a member of any minority group to have to speak for that minority. The gay population is incredibly diverse and hold all kinds of opinions.
@18, I agree with you in not liking it, but that doesn't mean that it isn't a reality that minority groups have to deal with. When Al Sharpton goes on TV, he isn't literally speaking for "the blacks" but many people see it that way. When Dan Savage goes on TV, he isn't literally speaking for "the gays" but many people see it that way.
If you are someone who is speaking publicly, I think you need to consider this. Hope that makes sense.
@20 - Closeted gay Republicans are Uggos because they're in the closet. If they were to lose weight, buff up, get their hair done properly, and invest in a tailor instead of off-the-rack their fellow Repubbies would be denouncing them on the floor of the legislature (and asking for some hot time in the bathroom later).
@20: I think they're trying to keep their wives away from them, keshmeshi. If I were a gay man married to a woman, I'd certainly make myself as unattractive as possible to ensure that sex was only ever done in pursuit of making babies.
They're politicians. They're employing entirely different standards of attractiveness. It's not about how you look; it's about how much power you have. The only standards of appearance are the standards of election: they need to look mature, staid, respectable, and authoritative. They don't need to look sexy.
FWIW, the nightclub is called Faces, and @3, it's owned by a guy, not a lady. The other two bars across the street are owned by a male also. And Wednesday nights are dollar drink night, so at least he didn't spend too much money before he picked up his trick.
@19 do black people care if 'al sharpton makes them look
bad' ?
no..it is not a reality for them/us do deal with.
do i care whether this thread makes the us gays look bad..?
no . the only 'reality' this may represent is squarely in your head. not mine.
Another disgusting tidbit to this story. The out-gay-proud Mayor of Sacramento knew about Ashburn and stated he had personally seen him in gay bars.
gesh
It's ironic because that day I watched the documentary "Outrage" about in-the-closet Republicans putting their self-hatred homophobia into their legislative choices. It's shameful that they're in a position to lift the GLBTA community yet they put us down.
Oh, he touched the guy on the shoulder. Wait, I know a guy who's patted me on the back, or gripped my shoulder...I thought it was an affirming man thing, turns out my brother is gay for me!
Which, to me, just means that he picked up the unidentified young man near a gay club without actually going in.
Which, in case y'all don't catch what that means, is far trashier.
Oh how I'd love if he'd drag on this joke by saying he was just giving a poor boy a ride. I mean it worked for Eddie Murphy, right?

*yawn*
Shocked I tell you.

At least I know where to go to nail a politician next time I'm in Sackamenna.
