The Wii toddler death sounds a mite suspicious.

The Dad left his gun on the table and "forgot about it" after "investigating a prowler".

The offered scenario is that the child snatched the gun and mistook it (weighing 20 times more) for a (plastic) Wii controller. Although the kid played the game all the time, she suddenly decided to shoot backwards.

Maybe I watch too many 48 hour mysteries, but this one deserves an investigation.

RE: The toddler mistaking Wii gun with real one,

The article goes into some detail about how "unfortunate it is that the Wii has a realistic looking gun controller" and "it would be hard for Nintendo to regulate it."

Um... maybe the concern should be on regulating real guns given to irresponsible parents rather than fake guns used to play video games? It reminds me of the George Carlin routine where he says "Now they're thinking of banning toy guns... AND THEY'RE GONNA KEEP THE REAL FUCKING ONES!!!"

I'm opposed to banning guns, but seriously... it's people and incidents like this that only bring up the obvious calls for more regulation/training/responsibility that are hard to disagree with.

Iowa?
Santorum?!

This is a job for
Doorknob Danny---

hurry Dan, nip it in the bud...

We'll wait to hear the whiiiiining when Roberts reams Slog a new one on Prop 8.
5
Roberts is the papist wing of the extremist Supreme Court. He and Alito, Thomas and Scalia will try to kill freedom in this country with fascism. Bush appointees all.
6
By "Jobless aid" you mean paying people to not work?

And by "compassion for the jobless" the article means borrowing $66 BILLION from our grandchildren to pay people for not working?

($66 BILLION that our grandchildren will actually pay $143 BILLION to repay?...)

And does "compassion for the jobless" also encompass Quadrupling the length of time we pay people our grandchildren's money not to work?

When will the Democraps muster a little "compassion" for our grandchildren?
7
5
there is no try-
only do...

The article did mention that the measure illustrates the great extent to which direct help for the jobless and the poor (aka Bribes for the Masses paid for by our grandchildren...) makes up a large portion of Democrats' election-year agenda on jobs — and threatens to squeeze out other items amid concerns about a budget deficit projected at a record $1.6 trillion this year.

The Democraps are entering 'shit in your pants' re-election territory so expect to see borrowed money FLYING into the pockets of Democrapic interest groups...

Massa...

Assburn....

Obviously this country need to elect more homosexuals to office.
11
I can't tell if you mean lock up the guns or lock up the toddlers. Can't we demand both?
12
@5: Reagan appointed Scalia.

And, all justices are confirmed by the Senate.
13
@12 Thanks. My mistake. But Reagan was worse than Bush. The Senate is corrupt. We have plenty of proof of that.
14
omg bike directions on google!!!!! much more useful than trying to use the walking directions.
15
"Christmas State Trooper"?

So, do they drive reindeer sleighs instead of patrol cars?
16
Dear anon, if you're so worried about the debts 'our' grandchildren may inherit, why don't you go ahead and not breed? It's not rocket science, the world doesn't need more people, anyway. We can't support the ones we have.

Also, hey, has it occurred to you in your elitist haze, that these petty 'poor' jobless people were, without a doubt, somebody's grandchildren, too? I'm sorry that not having a job seems to equate to being worthless to you, but there are lots of reasons good people are unemployed, and if they can't pay for a roof over their heads they're going to end up dying on the streets, or turn to crime. God forbid a country tries to support it's people. I don't see how abandoning the poor is a better long-term solution, and I don't know why you'd want to raise kids/grandchildren in a county that does.

TL;DR: Have some compassion, you greedy fuck.
17
gosh, you're right.
I'll have some compassion.
Give me $500 bucks.
I'll give it to the next unemployed guy I see...

(maybe you could borrow another $500 to give me and I could be REALLY compassionate....)
18
It's funny how shit-for-brains trolls don't understand that unemployment benefits are half or less than half a person's working income, and they still have to pay taxes on it. I know I was living high on the hog on $200 a week last time I was unemployed.

Although I can certainly understand why someone who's never held a job for more than six months and who's never been fired for anything other than cause wouldn't know how unemployment benefits work.
19
Google's bike directions are pretty whack, though if you don't live in Portland (and use bycycle.org), I'm not sure what your other options are..

Different topic-in regards to the "Jihad Jane" story. For those who don't already know, the Swedish artist Lars Vilks (he's not really a political cartoonist) should really be recognized for his contributions to a different kind of nationalistic fervor in the nation he started:

$200 a week for doing nothing is pretty sweet.
drag it out for two years and you've got a deal...
22
It's even funnier how shit-for-brains liberals don't understand that anything you do with someone else's money, especially when they have no say in the fact that you are taking it away from them, is not compassion.
23
Sorry, but I'm with the shit-for-brains troll on this one. Forcibly taking other peoples' money against their will? Yep, "stealing" is the only word I can come up with.
24
@22 and 23,

You do have a say. It's called voting. Grow up. 5280, you're way too old to be so fucking immature.
25
So collecting taxes is "stealing?" Have you looked at your money lately? Whose name is written on it? Yours?
26

Those 30 year Treasury notes Obama is selling to China to pay for his and the Democrap's COMPASSION will be paid off by people who haven't even been born yet.

DID THEY VOTE FOR IT?

ASSHOLE

(paid off at $2.34 for every dollar borrowed, btw...)

PAY FOR YOUR FUCKING COMPASSION WITH YOUR OWN FUCKING MONEY
27
@26: I'm still paying for the B-1 bomber that the class of 1986 put on my tab. Bet you're pissed about that, right? Right? Writing angry letters to the editor and so forth?

28
In 1986 the accumulated National debt was $1.8 Trillion.
Reagan had added $o.66 Trillion of that in his first four years.
The national debt was 40% of the GDP.

Oh for the good old days....

In 13 months Obama has increased the national debt by $5.4 Trillion to $14.3 Trillion.
(An increase in the U.S. debt ceiling to $14.3 trillion by H.J.Res. 45 was sent to the president on February 4, 2010. President Barack Obama signed this ceiling of $14.3 trillion on February 12, 2010.)

By the end of his term in 2013 the national debt will be over 100% of GDP.

Obama will have increased the national debt by 32%-
5X as much as Bush in either of his terms.

Oh for the good old days....
29
@1 - I was thinking the same thing. Why is this 3 year old aiming the gun at herself even if she mistook it for a controller. What are the odds that she would've shot herself before shooting the TV? Are girls really that bad at video games?
30
Obama STEALS 42¢ of every dollar the Federal Government spends from future generations.

Who will pay the salaries of 2nd grade teachers whose jobs the stimulus "saved"?
Their 6 year old students....
31
28
By Obama's own projections he will DOUBLE the debt to $19 TRILLION by the end of his terms.

At today's ridiculously low (and unsustainable) interest rates the Interest alone will be $1 TRILLION each and every year.
Just for Interest.

When interest rates rise that will jump to $1.8 TRILLION.
Each and Every Year.
JUST FOR INTEREST.

Please wait...
