It's not really a shit hole, and not all of us support the board's decision. I graduated from that high school and gay/lesbians have gone in the past. I attended a prom there the same year a gay couple was there. This doesn't make the board's actions right, but they probably could have just gone to the prom without asking first and no one would have made a big deal about it.

I've seen variations of that a lot, "they could have just gone with out asking." somehow blaming the victims for forcing the administrators to expose their bigotry. But in the articles I've read it said that last month the administrator issued a written statement saying same sex dates would not be allowed.

To those who say "we" should pick more important issues I answer that this issue was caused by those who discriminate. It used to be that bigots in small towns could get away with this nonsense, but we are not going to allow that to happen anymore.
