As of 2pm Eastern Stupak's spokeswoman told NYT he's still a no - MSNBC's Viqueira says the "Stupak 8" are close, but no cigar just yet.

Thanks for the 'Yes' vote, Baird.

You're still a douchebag.

Huffington:
"At one point, three lawmakers, presumably Republicans, went outside the Capitol building -- on a second floor balcony -- to greet the protestors. And they each held up one side reading: "Kill" "The" "Bill"

XXX
Thereupon Barney Frank upbraided the Gopsters.

Yeah, Baird was actually one of the more liberal holdouts. We called the crap out of him in Vancouver, though. Apparently the in-district calls were a little more than half in favor of reform.

The out-of-state calls were like 90% against it - I personally get an image of like, a corporate telemarketing center at an insurance company staffed with teabaggers who've been spoon-fed non-germane talking points by Fox News "Barrack's [sic] Ameristan govremnt [sic] takeover...".

But we'll never really know where those calls actually came from. Sounds like staffers may have mostly ignored them, and if so, probably rightly: Baird's there for the people of Washington, and he can turn on Fox News anytime to hear from those callers.

Glad he's moved over to the right side of history. I don't think he'll regret it.

Finally Stupak agrees. Whew.

If my understanding is correct though, he only agrees because of language that will be included severely restricting pro-choice options (funding for abortions). If that is true, I'm happy for everyone who will get coverage but saddened that the government and the church (Stupak openly admits his anti-choice platform comes from his catholic faith) are involving themselves in private decisions. I view it as a step back in time.

Please wait...
