That's pretty pricey for only 8 pictures in what I'm guessing is also pricey packaging. I'd rather have very basic/plain packaging and more film for the price.
The packaging is nice and I'm sure Stanley Kubrick would love it. @3 You've got me there, I have never seen the old packaging and at first look I was wondering why there were silly "cards" with silly quotes on them in the packaging (finally realized that it was the film itself). I thought the group was trying to be all cutesy and hipstery. If the packaging is basic recycled cardboard that isn't bleached white then that would be cool.
If I'm not mistaken, this is really for a lifestyle/hobbyist market. so while the price may go down after awhile... I'm not expecting too much unfortunately.
@4, I think those are the dark slides that protect the first film before you stick it in. They're necessary, and I doubt it costs much more to print quotations on them.
But yeah, it's for hobbyists. There's a pretty big market these days for oddball film cameras; witness all the Holga and Diana action. And Fuji Instax is doing great business with the same type of instant film as Polaroid used to make, only with better color and definition. Though weird color and fuzzy is kind of hip these days.
@2, where do you see expensive packaging? I see a cardboard box, just like the old SX-70 and 600 film, only better-designed.
I'm going to stick with my Fuji Instax, though, I think, and my Fuji film for my Polaroid 100 -- which is way better than the old Polaroid film was.
