Ha thanks! "Northwest Masters" is a drag to me too, but I guess it got her attention if only to have a solid "old folks" reference to rebel against. Also, what would you call them? Maybe you got it right with this post. It is something substantial and historic nonetheless so thanks for the mention. I still and will call them Masters and rue the thought that the concept has been diluted through cynicism.
I tried to come up with something else but I get pretty tired of the kitchy, trendy "themed" art shows and gimmicks that pass for curating. You know it when you see it: It may be some reference to "decay" or "birds on sticks" or "lets plug in a bunch of flourescent lights and see what happens" (no irony: GO see the Tivon Rice show at Lawrimore - amazing).
Anyway, titling a show is a ridiculous prospect and I adhere to the nugget: keep it simple, stupid.
"Northwest Masters" isn't really a simple title though. It's pretty loaded with associations. I would have been a bit perplexed by it too. I would have expected to see it as the title of a show at Foster White, not Vermillion.
