“We just received preliminary data in violence-attributed expulsions for middle school youth,” she says, “and that number is trending down.”

This particular statistic by itself doesn't necessarily imply a drop in youth violence. NCLB put pressure on schools to cut back on expulsions, so the observed trend could be due to a change in the behavior of administrators, not of students.
