I wonder if the players can switch to flat sneakers in weather like that -- most of the ten million missed passes looked like they were due to players whose feet were stuck to the turf. I've heard some city league players are using flats on the same Field Turf on city playfields when it's wet out.
Wet and miserable - I don't think I've been that soaked since that Sasquatch that was just about rained out - but three points to start the season are what I wanted. Up the Sounders!

Flats would just make you slip and fall on your ass. Maybe switch out the cleats for turf shoes (they have a lot more smaller cleats on the bottom, but not as long), however you are still going to get a lot of sliding. I think the bigger problem is that the ball moves incredibly fast on wet turf, and there is very little friction to slow it down. My guess during the game was that people weren't expecting the ball to get there that fast. Not really a shoe thing.
@28 - just be glad they weren't tearing the city apart. When we get the World Cup in 2016, you'll see a lot of that. I wouldn't park my car within 5 miles of the stadium ...
@29, it really did look like they couldn't get their feet off of the turf. I'm pretty sure I even saw a couple of guys fall over because their upper body wanted to go somewhere and their feet wouldn't follow. I have a buddy who plays and refs in the city leagues, and he says the Field Turf is surprisingly not that slippery. But maybe I'm wrong. I was just wondering. It's got to be miserable playing in that weather. If we had natural grass it would be completely wiped away today, drainage system or no.
@30, YOUR HOUSE is within five miles of Quest. And of course, you wouldn't know this, but there's already been a World Cup in the US, in 1994, and no cities were torn apart. Very few cities have been torn apart in ANY World Cup, though there have been a few incidents here and there. Cagliari, Italy wasn't a great place to be in 1990. Violence is far more likely to occur at qualifying matches, like Egypt vs. Algeria recently.
I'm not sure when MLS makes their schedule, but I could've told them 10 years ago that the fourth Thursday in March is a stupid opening day.
2-0! 2-0! 2-0!
Sounders!
Seattle!
Sounders!
Sad to see Seba in the wrong uniform (*sob*), but it's a good start to the season.
