I'd never eaten at China Gate before this past year, but it's the place I've eaten Chinese the last three times I've eaten it. I'm bummed.

So sad. I courted my wife there. She once saw a fight that involved karate kicks there. It lost much of its charm after the fire, when the lovely red wallpaper with black flocking in the form of '20s naked ladies was replaced by white vinyl, but it was still a great place to go now and then and try to win the hearts of the Filipino toughs (who always sang BoyzIIMen's "End of the Road"). I'll pour out a mai-tai for them.

confession.. i once sang ' hello' .. as in ' hello...is it me you're looking for ?'.. as in lionel ritchie... i was very very drunk and i fled from it as fast as lot fled gomorrah.. until now i've never looked back it's the onliest time i've ever done karoake. and it's the onliest time i ever will..
oh.. and another time i took somebody's left over chinese food because he was passed out in front of the place and it didn't look like he was gonna eat it anytime soon.. it turned out to be shrimp fried rice and it was really good.. i was very very drunk then too. i learned getting drunk in bars in chinese restaurants ALWAYS leads to mischief and not always the good kind. make a note of it.

Loved that place. My girlfriend and I went there one night when we were both in the mood for bad Chinese food. Fried egg rolls and sweet and sour pork in all its red donut filling gooiness. Loved the Karaoke there. I always felt like I was doing something so bizzarre when I was there to Karaoke- something so strange that it could only occur in a city of a certain size.

SAD!!! I never ate there but one time when I was there for drinks I saw a Capitol Hill Hipster Metal dude do a Guns n Roses duet with a 70-something year old Asian grandma. It remains one of the funniest things I have ever seen in my life.

LAME! The karaoke scene won't ever be the same.
