I came out to three of my closest friends this week, and believe me, it was hard.
I wish all the best of life to Ricky Martin - he is a man of extreme courage.
For those of you who will argue that he waited until he was financially secure, wouldn't you do the same? If you answer no, you have NO idea what it means to be in any level of spotlight.

One male friend wore a wedding ring and made stuff up about his wife. He had fake pictures of him and a wife in his wallet and setting around his house. He went to the most extremes to hide it. It was such a relief for him to come out and quit putting so much effort into the imaginary wife!
All the males cried, all the females laughed. . . but I could see they liberated themselves. Not having to hide it or watch what they say anymore. It was interesting to see the difference in my gay friends once they came out too.
After hiding it for so long, for whatever reasons, I can see it being hard to come out. So I say, not shocking at all but good for Ricky, good for freeing himself, good for being proud and happy.
And hell ya'. .. he is still very hawt! Gorgeous!
Coming out is hard for *everyone*, not just guys. That said, congratulations on finding your own courage.
He's 38 - and that's old in pop music terms. He's also fabulously wealthy now (his flame died out in this country a while ago, but he was huge in Latin America), so he probably isn't worried about missing out on future pop music earnings.
Therefore, I don't think there's anything particularly brave about his decision. It was - at last - just the right thing to do.
Or did you think it a waste in some other way? Facts and specifics, please, not meaningless "it's just a waste" or "think about the children."
And did he become any less fine today? You admit he's a good person. Or that he was.
If she makes vague and meaningless statements we get to interpret them however the hell we want.
Mr. Martin might have the hots for the guy I linked earlier, so, there is a chance she'd find him a waste as well. Me? I'd wouldn't mind sketching either of them. Both are lovely.
@36 Ricky Martin was a mighty fine male specimen and having to visualize him throwing his life and whatever was left of his career away like this is saddening. Sorry, but to any women that found this guy attractive it is a waste. For his sake I just hope he doesn't end up with some disease, rather than see him end his days like that, bed ridden with HIV/Aids or some new mutating sexually transmitted disease I know that most of his fans would rather see him live a quiet life of celibacy. He can be what he wants but the least he can do know is spare us having to see such a tragedy plastered all over the net and tv.

Martin has said that it was the birth of his twin sons that helped him realize that the time was right to come out.

Aw... Thanks. Perhaps we will catch each other some day. I am with you on "La Vida Loca", loved the dancing in it. My style is kind of a Latin-Belly Dancing fusion, great fun and great exercise.
