@19: There are very few easy decisions. And if putting 34k Americans in harms way for a few years will make it possible to eradicate the Taliban, thus giving Afghanistan a chance at progress and weakening Al Qaeda, that is an acceptable cost.
What is not acceptable is the staggering amount of collateral damage to civilians, and protocol for Predator and Reaper strikes certainly does need to be re-written.

While the Passover story is embellished with a few of the standard religious and fictitious miracles, most of it is actually based on quite a bit of fact. Enslavement that did happen. Liberation that did happen. Plagues of the sort that did occur in that region (some of them).
The lessons from the Passover story are good ones. In fact, the main theme of the Passover story is quite "American." It is just a celebration of freedom.
