too many long-winded words

These are some of the pilot programs in the Senate bill that Atul Gawande really seemed to like so much (http://www.newyorker.com/reporting/2009/…). Although the CBO doesn't give them any credit for deficit reduction, it's likely that at least some of them will work, making the bill a little better than it initially seems.

And SLOG is cheering...why?

Since "participating in a wellness program" probably means not smoking, drinking and staying off drugs including Mary Jane.

#3: Not only that, but you will likely be penalized should you refuse to take the necessary daily medications to "manage" your "conditions." Should this strike you as a prudent and wholly uncontroversial idea, consider the way that pharmaceutical companies are constantly seeking to enhance revenue by pressuring doctors to tighten the treatment guidelines for various diseases. The conflicts of interest behind such proceedings can be outrageously blatant: when new guidelines were drawn up for hypertension a few years ago, a majority of the authoring physicians were on the payroll of the pharmaceutical industry.

Everyone should really make a point of getting that link in front of as many people as possible. There are plenty of reasons to like the law and plenty of reasons not to but people should know the truth so they can make their own decisions.

@3, Don't be silly. They put everything we need to "manage" our "conditions" directly in the water supply so we don't forget. Here, let me help you with that tinfoil hat, it's not pulled down far enough over your ears for good protection.

Sorry, that was directed at #4 not #3.

@4 - Yes, and the best way to avoid them managing your conditions is to cover your head and refuse to read any information about the bill, Especially the article in the link that you're replying to. Reading anything at all about the bill might expose you to dangerous subliminal messages implanted by government agents who are working with the pharmaceutical industry to draw you into their sinister web.
